Seal – Kiss From A Rose Lyrics 10 years ago
The drug metaphor doesn't ruin the beauty of this song at all, but rather tempers it by telling us of the dangers of unabashed love, especially in regard to a lovelorn person. Seal tells us of how his first lost love and the misery that follows hurt him immensely, and how his new lover brightens his life to the point where he may cling to (and even smother) her to stay high on love. To "abuse her like a drug", if you will.

Gerard McMann – Cry Little Sister Lyrics 11 years ago
For part two, I shall tackle the last verses and split the chorus in half, to see Gerard's and the children's choir parts separately. Let's begin with those four raw verses at the songs end;

"My Shangri-La, I can't forget why you were mine/I need you now"--Shangri-La is a place where life reaches perfection, or so the dictionary says of the term. I feel like this is a direct reference to Michael Emerson's predicament in the film. His body and mind are awaiting the final step to vampiric perfection, which shall be initiated by a first drink, and Star offers him a taste of the purest mortal pleasure (aka she sexed him up, but to call it a "mortal pleasure" when they were both vampires [at the time] sounds like a contradiction). So, Michael makes a joint promise with Star to resist their thirst and revert to their former humanity, becoming a perfect couple in a perfectly lovely existence.

Now, here's the moment you've all been awaiting...the chorus:

"Cry little sister/Come, Come to your brother"--I know you're all thinking incest, but throw that out of your fucking heads immediately! When Michael was dared to drink from the bottle of David's (or Max's) blood, unknowingly, Star exclaimed "No!" and watched in horror as he followed through on the gang's dirty deed. She feels awful about how someone she's starting to love has been cursed with a shared affliction. However, the fact that they may consider themselves "kin" doesn't stop these two from having a physical relationship. What can I say? Bloodsuckers of a bloodline fuck each other; it's messed up.

"Unchain me, sister/Love is with your brother"--another reference to Michael and Star. When they have sex, his mind is temporarily freed from the burden of bloodlust and worry. Although it was mere sex, Michael feels more for Star...feels something meaningful, which transcends physical pleasures.

"Thou shall not fall/Thou shall not die"--given the convert may fall from a level of grace, but they'll never fall from their new spot at the top of the food chain. Also, they can only climb the ladder in the new social hierarchy, or find a good position to fill. As to the second verse, I find it self-explanatory. Despite all the means to which they could meet their ends, vampires simply can't die as easily as humans can, because the heightened intelligence prevents them from doing something stupid.

"Thou shall not fear/Thou shall not kill"--this one gets tricky, as it departs from the creepy choir ambience and delivers an actual religious quote. For while vampires have nothing to fear but the death of their loved ones, they do happen kill, which goes against the Seventh of Ten Commandments used by Christianity (Judaism and Islam as well).

However, there are three things you should know before I close the case: (a) I hate religions and have none; (b) vampires have a legitimate reason to kill, but could sustain themselves with drinking a partial amount of blood; and (c) I love vampires, for they have every bit of potential to be badass, if only the screenwriters could just get past the bullshit and deliver something decent to films.

This is the end of the interpretation. I pray this sheds some light on the song and serves to be the definitive view of it. Some of you may stick to older views, but for those who can understand and appreciate the words I've delivered here, that is all I ask of you. Good evening and come again, curious minds!

First and foremost, this is the theme song to an 1980s film about vampires, so the songwriter had to work within those parameters.

"The last fire will rise behind those eyes"--definitely referring to a loss of self or purity when you convert and surrender to more primal urges. Bloodlust is a combination of thirst and your libido, because all vampires' nightcaps are treated like Satanic orgies (in films, anyway). Of course, we could argue about the demonic origins of vampires all day, but who called them demons in the first place? Christians, followers of one of the biggest myths ever written. That there is an example of the pot calling the kettle black!

"Black house will rock, blind boys don't lie"--a black house will rock. I'm not sure, but it might mean that a collective malice is excited to have claimed another soul into its roster. This event will be so disturbing, even the blind couldn't deny it.

"Immortal fear, that voice so clear/Through broken walls, that scream I hear"--the fledgling is certain (and very afraid) of an impending act of evil. While any vampire is destined to be stone cold and distant, there will still be certain stimuli that shall break that hollow shell and incite extreme emotional displays. I.E. the scream of a loved one, be it brought by another vampire or the converted relative.

"The masquerade/Strangers will come"--vampires put on a front to comfort and lure the unwary mortal quarry into their eager, sometimes dagger-nailed hands.

"When will they learn this loneliness?"--due to humanity's xenophobic nature, the vampire race must remain secretive. In doing so, you don't see too many fresh and friendly faces, which further leads to social starvation and insanity. Trust me: I'm not very social, but I make sure to go outside and see people, because the pain that comes with solitude is like a colony of termites in your psyche.

"Temptation heat, beats like a drum/Deep in your veins, I will not lie"--sometimes the desire to do something, that would both be wrong and give you great pleasure, is strong to a paralyzing degree. Lust, for example, will make your heart race; to "beat like a drum". It can feel like it's enveloped every fiber in your being, so much that deception cannot manage to conceal it, and you aren't willing to try.

I'll post a reply to get the last verse, and ultimately, the chorus. Please be patient and enjoy what I've posted.

That's quite an intelligent response ! Although I've never gotten around to reading poetry, I know that Poe is one of the masters.

Look, it's about buying cheap clothes secondhand, pure and simple. Sure there are some shitty clothes at Goodwill or Salvation Army, but have you seen the donations from the newer generations?!

I found countless T-shirts and button-ups from Goodwill--until they started devolving into a racket--and I've recently found six tees and one pair of jeans for $24 at Salvation Army. If that isn't impressive, well SHEEEIT!
