Eminem – Role Model Lyrics | 11 years ago |
for me, role model is one of em's most cathartic and powerful songs. it's basically a list of all the reasons why his listeners ought not to follow his example. being in the spotlight as much as em was at the turn of the millennium comes with a great burden--or at least politicians would have you believe--as an artist is never granted complete separation between his craft and his personal life. thus, it is implicitly assumed that em stands behind what his music deals with. because that is obviously not the case, em grew to resent his meteoric rise and the asterisk that was suddenly placed by his artistic license. that's why you have songs like role model that might sound vulgar to the layman. but to me, this is what music should sound and look like |

for me it's about conditional identity. since you listen to this song/album i assume that you were around when em was mainstream american mass media's public enemy #1. so.. if you like him as a rapper, you probably don't give a shit that he's white if you know of him strictly through mainstream media (aka you don't listen to his music outside of what you hear on the radio from time to time), then why is his race an issue to you? it doesn't have any bearing on his message. and if you've written him off as a rapper that succeeded strictly on the basis of race, when you listen to his songs it falls on deaf ears. |
Tori Amos – '97 Bonnie and Clyde (Eminem cover) Lyrics | 11 years ago |
em's version is sick. juxtaposing how much he loves his daughter to how much he hates his baby's mama. idk where you're coming from saying he is disconnected and whatnot. the tone is innocent for a reason. it's a narrative, and he's talking to his little girl. of course he's not mirroring his words with his tone! he'd scare hay-hay right into the water along with her mom, stepdad and stepbrother! |
