I see this song about maybe a forbidden love. He isn't supposed to be with this person maybe due to her being involved with someone else, maybe married. For whatever reason this relationship became dysfunctional and he is trying to resist it. Maybe she has told him she doesn't feel the same as he does, so in response to that rejection, he is trying to distance himself but it's too hard for him to do so. He wants her so badly to love him like he loves her and/or choose him over the other guy or whatever it is that is keeping her from being with him. He feels second-choice, lonely, can't move on from her...in this song, he is pleading for her love. The emotion in this song is what really moves me. They lyrics are great, but the emotion and passion he conveys are what really makes the song. |

This is a beautiful song! I think he is saying that is consumed with missing a person/thoughts of a person and he is using rain as a metaphor for that all consuming feeling. I even think he may be missing this person due to a death. Especially in the line " Because the closest i get to holding you again is everytime that sky opens up" Like, the person he misses is in Heaven. It is really sweet but sad, too. |

What I love about this song is that this man wants to provide for his woman in every way!! He wants to take care of her. He is a man of his word, he wants her to feel safe and trust him. Love it. THIS is what a woman wants and unfortunately it is a rare find these days! |

It is about loving someone who is no good for you...no better than that shot of tequila...the craving it, wanting it, even though you know you will regret it later. This woman has the same kind of power over him that the liquor does...it is intense. Obviously, there is a hint of alcohol addiction, but I think the main point it just neither the liquor nor the girl are good for him, yet he cant pass on either one of them. This is an awesome song! |

To be honest, I always thought this song would be better as a duet. I think that is why it is so confusing as to whether it is the woman or the man. I think it is both depending on the verse. It is obviously about a marriage gone wrong, changing over time, no longer what it once was. They miss each other...their youger selves and the love they shared. What has become of who they were and the family they created is sad and apparently can't be fixed or go back to how it was. Too much has happened, they have changed too much. I just always imagined Faith coming in on that 3rd verse as the woman's point of view...it would make so much more sense...also, I love how they come in together when they sing the line " why this world can't leave well enough alone" ..it is as if they have both been put through the ringer...life happened and it sounds like some things that were out of their control. I think the saddest part of the song is the line "And God it hurts to think of you, for the light in your eyes was gone" They miss each other...the people they used to be. |

Love this. It is about loving someone for who they truly are. No secrets, no holding back, feeling safe with one another. True intimacy. And, I also feel it may be about stolen moments between the two lovers..whether it be due to other obligations, time, distance... In those moments, though, there is TRUE love and such admiration between the two people. It really is such a beautiful, sweet song. :) |
