The Killers – Miss Atomic Bomb Lyrics 11 years ago
I wonder if anyone else has noticed this but when he sings

"The dust cloud has settled, and my eyes are clear"
"But sometimes in dreams of impact I still hear".

If you listen carefully and especially in the live versions, the guitar interlude is the same guitar interlude used in Mr.Brightside.

The Killers – Mr. Brightside Lyrics 11 years ago
This is my interpretation of this song. I could be so far off but I recon I have a good understanding on the lyrics and the meaning.

"I'm coming out of my cage"
"And I've been doing just fine"

I think this refers to a girl who has kept him locked away (caged) and only lets him out when it best fits her, whatever the circumstances. She does this for her own amusement and benefits, not taking into consideration what it is doing to him feelings wise. "And I've been doing just fine" I think he is laying to himself about the whole situation that he is in about being caged. He wants everyone around him to believe that he is doing (just fine) when even he knows he isn't.

"Gotta gotta be down"
"Because I want it all"

All he wants is true love with his girl, the kind that you can only get if you are willing to give your entire self to someone else.

"It started out with a kiss"
"How did it end up like this"
"It was only a kiss, it was only a kiss"

He's wondering how he got this emotionally involved with this girl. He tries to reassure himself that it's not a big deal as "It was only a kiss" but he's already in too deep because he allowed himself to invest in that kiss with feelings and emotions but the feeling he felt wasn't the same for her.

"Now I'm falling asleep"
"And she's calling a cab"
"While he's having a smoke"
"And she's taking a drag"
"Now they're going to bed"
"And my stomach is sick"
"And it's all in my head"
"But she's touching his chest"
"Now, he takes off her dress"
"Now, letting me go"
"And I just can't look it's killing me"
"And taking control"

These lines tell a story about the girl he had kissed and now once again she is hanging out with another guy. This of course deeply heartens him, as he has strong emotional feelings for this girl, he starts to feel deeply jealous and angry as he thought she felt the same way about him. He starts to fall asleep and he begins to imagine this girl sleeping with the other guy and he begins to feel sick about it. He thinks about this girl and what she is getting up to with the other man. He wants her to let him go from this love triangle as he doesn't want to be apart of it because of what he see's inside his own head. He cannot look at what he is seeing as it is killing him with the pain. Everything, the pain, anger and jealousy is taking control over him and he is losing himself.

"Jealousy, turning saints into the sea"
The jealousy he feels is turning him into a different person, no longer easygoing as he'd been before.

"Swimming through sick lullabies"
He's constantly being tortured by the ideas he thinks up in his head, that she is with someone else, the other guy, and is doing things that he has thought up.

"Choking on your alibis"
She might've had alibis to prove that she wasn't seeing someone else behind his back, while she kept him in his cage. but he chokes on her alibis and can't believe her because of what he still continues to see.

"But it's just the price I pay"
He knew he was in for this, being with a girl like her. The price he pays is the intense feelings of jealousy, rage, and heartbreak that comes from his problem for getting too attached to this girl.

"Destiny is calling me"
"Open up my eager eyes"
"Cause I'm Mr. Brightside"

He can't stand the thought of losing her, and he knows she might leave him, so he knows he has to get over it and keep going, pretending that he doesn't care about the other guy that she could be seeing behind his back. The eager eyes suggests some kind of naivety, maybe he pretends not to understand the cheating so he can deal with the jealousy and pain better. But he needs someone to (Open up his eager eyes) so he can see what is happening,
he is also being controlled by living in denial, making up excuses for her, trying to see the brightside in the whole situation. (Being the Good guy, being Mr. Brightside)

Mr Brightside is in reference to how he tried to pretend this wasn't happening, or was (looking at the brightside) and then he's saying how this is the price he pays for being so foolishly optimistic and not stopping it sooner, and he finally opens his eyes and accepts his destiny.

"I never"
"I never"
"I never"

"I never" Could be a reference to how he would never put this girl in the same situation as she has done to him. But I think he never expected something like this could happen to him. After all, it was only a kiss.
