Pink Floyd – Nobody Home Lyrics 2 years ago
One thing I always take from this song is how much objects can have value to us. Not only practical value but also sentimental value, specially if you dont have a lot of means. We, that live in the first world, will discard combs and brushes monthly, and they dont mean anything to us, but I always imagine a poor person on a poor country, in a crude room, looking at the collection objects that he/she gathered through life: a few brushes and combs, a small black book, that favorite old shirt, and a fixed pair of shoes. I know this isnt what Roger meant by these lyrics, but I always picture that on my mind. The value that objects can either have or not have, to people.

Dire Straits – Money For Nothing Lyrics 3 years ago
@[madnesslover_89:36454] I am in agreement with "future you".. : )

Art needs the freedom to be extreme, or even offensive. If we start censuring, pruning and cutting the edges, we will be left off with only anemic and fake works that doesnt represt at all the artist. We also need to understand that a piece of art DOES NOT always represent the artists opinions.

I go as far as saying that the artist SHOULD NOT give a DAMN of whatever other people will think. His commitment should only be with him and with his idea. Of course, anybody is welcome to critique any work of art, but the artist himself, should not create based on what other people will think. He owes it to himself to lay down on his work his genuine and truthful essence.

@[madnesslover_89:36449] The word faggot is used in a scenario where there is a character saying the word. Its a person that works on a furniture store that is watching TV and commenting.

So, if I write a book where there is a character that uses the word, I cant write the word on the book? Is that what we came to?

Fates Warning – Valley Of The Dolls Lyrics 6 years ago
There certainly seems to be connections to the previous song of the album (Sorceress), such as "Holocaust" and the "Talisman". Sorceress also mentions Morgana La Fey (the third track of the album)

However, on the other hand, Valley of the Dolls mention guitars and magazines - Stuff that has nothing to do with the fantasy lore of the other two cited songs.

As "Guardian85" said and "progrockdude" also mentioned, I always thought that this song was about the growing (at the time) "hair metal scene"... how they were ilegimate queens using mama's makeup and trying to clone each other to appear in hype magazines. Instead the Pirates of Underground (real metal) would prevail as legitimate art. "So, yeah, you friggin' fake clones, go back where you belong, the valley of the dolls". Well, that's my theory.

Another one of Farner's religion-infested songs. Just ignore it.

What I'd like to know is what the screams have to do with the song?

Grand Funk Railroad – Nothing Is The Same Lyrics 11 years ago
One of my favorites from GFR, I believe this one doesnt mean to be complex. Its about how your opinions and your goals change when you get older. I certainly changed a lot my points of view and goals.

Grand Funk Railroad – Mr. Limousine Driver Lyrics 11 years ago
This is another song about GFR and women. Even tho I'm not a chauvinist, I do open up a smile when I listen to this or "I Dont Have to Sing the Blues". Its certainly insteresting the concept of a man sittin' at home, asking his limo driver to pick up some woman. Now, that is what I call "Living life".

David Bowie – All the Madmen Lyrics 11 years ago
I always thought that Bowie is talking about the "oh-so-righteous" people who will judge anybody that tries something different, dress differently, etc. People who would loathe rock n` roll, of any behaviour or attitude that strays from the "righteous/sane path". At least, thats what I get from the chorus, that he would rather stay with the insane than with the sane sad people :

'Cause I'd rather stay here
With all the madmen
Than perish with the sad men roaming free
