Burzum – Feeble Screams from Forests Unknown Lyrics

So does anyone understand why Varg thought "The hopeless soul keeps mating" was a better line than "The hopeless soul keeps waiting"? He always complains about Euronymous changing it in the official booklet, but I'm not sure what his original line even means. |

@[ilovealkaline:234] I didn't know that but I can hear it. I get the feeling Drake would have appreciated that song's lyrics. |

Radiohead – Talk Show Host Lyrics

When you feel completely owned by society, just living a life that has been decided for you by others, you may feel this way. Ready to lock yourself in a room with a gun and a pack of sandwiches, and wait for society to send someone to come find you. This song would have made a lot of sense to me a few years ago.
The last time he sings "I'm ready," he's also ready for death. |

Metallica – Am I Evil? (Diamond Head cover) Lyrics
| 9 years ago

The best change Metallica made to this song is the two notes at 1:20. Diamond Head had those notes, but Metallica play them wrong in some way, slightly off pitch or wavering or something, and it sounds so intense and evil. |

Mayhem – De Mysteriis Dom Sathanas Lyrics
| 9 years ago

This is probably one of the tracks that Thorns finished the lyrics to, Dead finished the four songs that they played in concert with him (Funeral Fog, Freezing Moon, Pagan Fears, Buried by Time and Dust) and then he apparently left the completed lyrics to Life Eternal with his suicide note. Blackthorn (Snorre Ruch) finished the lyrics to the other three songs from Dead's drafts and fragments. |

Metallica – Ride The Lightning Lyrics

It took me a while to understand the first two lines, whether he did or didn't do it. Eventually what I got is ...
The judge said "Guilty as charged." The condemned man is thinking "Damn it ain't right" because he actually didn't do it. i.e. the verdict is not right.
I only figured this out because of band member quotes saying the man was innocent. |

Pavement – Trigger Cut/Wounded-Kite at :17 Lyrics

I always kind of thought "fruit-covered nails" was a reference to Michael Stipe's infamous "It sounds like two oranges being nailed together" quote (from the recording of Fables). |

Radiohead – Planet Telex Lyrics

I completely agree with this. I'm shocked at the amount of people thinking this is about a crush ... I listen to Radiohead so I don't have to hear silly songs about infatuation all day ... |

R.E.M. – Electrolite Lyrics
|
"any reference on record, like “new adventures is about alien abduction”, or “it sounds like two oranges being nailed together” probably means the interviewer or situation was somewhere between not good to wretched…and we were having a laugh as ricky gervais the extra would say. There is no alien abduction theme on new adventures, to answer your question."

Mayhem – Chainsaw Gutsfuck Lyrics

Whenever I listen to this song, I just hear noise coming from the vocals. If I actually heard these words, I don't know if I'd be able to listen to the song again and again. Which is good because I like the guitar part.
"Dead stated that the lyrics 'aren't bad at all, but they are later what would become gore and trendy'." |

Black Sabbath – Electric Funeral Lyrics

I get the similarity but I think on Dirt the higher bit is moved down one half step. but yes Jerry Cantrell is definitely a Sabbath fan. |

Its about everything you repress throughout your life. How you will never be able to get rid of these things, they will always be trying to escape and burst back into your conscious and your day-to-day life. |

This song even feels like being up at night, on caffeine, with fluorescent lights above you ... a perfect union of musical feeling with lyrical meaning. |

R.E.M. – You're In The Air Lyrics
|
I would call this an obsession-song. The feeling of this song seems very similar to "You" off Monster.
Though R.E.M. do not write a huge amount of love songs, and Up has about two of them, this definitely seems about romantic desire. Not just a crush, he can't stop thinking about the person at all. |

Radiohead – How to Disappear Completely Lyrics

This is what it feels like when you're living a life you don't want to live, just going through the motions of something you would never choose on your own. Especially when you're doing it on little sleep. |

Radiohead – Idioteque Lyrics

This seems to be about impending apocalypse but a lot of lines seem to be more just mood-creating. Most of the songs on Kid A are like this, this seems even more literal.
Thom Yorke on Kid A uses his vocals like Michael Stipe on Murmur. Not telling a story. |

Radiohead – No Surprises Lyrics
|
Suicide, yes. It seems to me that the narrator is rejecting two things that represent the pace of the modern world - alarms waking him up every morning, and ever more changes.
This song is incredibly beautiful and its heartbreaking when he says "what a pretty house and what a pretty garden" you just know he's noticing it because he's chosen to leave it. |
