Sum 41 – With Me Lyrics 11 years ago
First off i'd like to say this is one of my favorite songs of all time. After my breakup i gained new insight to what the song might mean.

The first lines of the song is very powerful. I think hes saying everything's nothing without you and i wouldn't have it any other way.

"Through it all, I made my mistakes
I stumble and fall, but I mean these words

I want you to know
With everything I won't let this go, these words are my heart and soul
I'll hold on to this moment you know, as I bleed my heart out to show
And I won't let go"

Even though they broke up or had a falling out because of his mistakes hes not going to give it up. Hes obviously remembering a moment in time where everything was perfect and hes not going to let it go.

"Thoughts read unspoken, forever in doubt
Pieces of memories fall to the ground
I know what I didn't have so, I won't let this go
'Cause it's true, I am nothing without you"

I feel like the first line of this verse might mean that he said something to her over text or something and maybe forever in doubt means the girl is doubting it or the guy doubts if he got his point through. A very cryptic line indeed.
Next he's reflecting on things (maybe qualities) that he didn't have so he want to try again knowing he needs those.

"All the streets where I walked alone, with nowhere to go
I've come to an end"

The guy obviously is lonely and cant stand it anymore.

"In front of your eyes, it falls from the skies
When you don't know what you're looking to find
In front of your eyes, it falls from the skies
When you just never know what you will find (what you will find)"

I think hes reflecting back on when they first got together. Maybe he wasn't looking for love but he found her. Or maybe he was upset or occupied with something or someone else in his life and she came in to make things better.

Overall i think this is a very powerful song and has more meaning than first meets the eye. (or rather, ear)

Trey Songz – Heart Attack Lyrics 11 years ago
Nice Insight LillyPad. Personally i think this song is about the feelings of love if the initial crushes or infatuations that fuels a relationship go away. Like if you really love the person for who they are but you aren't as attracted to them anymore. They may be more interested in somebody else but they don't want to hurt each other or give up what they have. I think this is a powerful song that talks about a message I've never heard expressed.

Maroon 5 – Payphone Lyrics 11 years ago
I totally agree with purple panther and love how this song captures the cynicism and bitterness of a breakup so perfectly. I can relate to this song almost word for word. Just FYI i'm going to comment on the no-rap version of this song because i feel Wiz's rap doesn't fit with the feeling of the song. . Or the musical sound for that matter. I recommend looking it up if you dislike the rap and have not heard this version. Also going to skip the chorus for now.

"Yeah, I, I know it's hard to remember,
The people we used to be
It's even harder to picture,
That you're not here next to me"

I feel like in the first line of the song he's trying to express the feeling of not being able to remember who he was before their relationship, and just how much you can change from the influence of one person close to you. Obviously he's still trying to adjust to being single again and the fact that he doesn't have that one person to confide in anymore.

"You say it's too late to make it,
But is it too late to try?
And in our time that you wasted
All of our bridges burned down"

He wants to try to fix the relationship but the girl obviously doesn't. I get the feeling throughout the song that the guy (maybe the girl too) had to give up a lot at one point for the relationship. An idea i could relate to and comes to mind first is that friends (especially mutual ones) could be lost due to a number of reasons. I feel like he is trying to say that you wasted in all of the time we spent building this, and you let it came crashing down and now i'm devastated and have nothing left. Maybe he even was so engrossed in this relationship that he sort of "ignored" other friends and aspects of his life.

"I've wasted my nights,
You turned out the lights
Now I'm paralyzed,
Still stuck in that time,
When we called it love,
But even the sun sets in paradise"

The first part of this section reinforces in my mind what i said above.
I think the next few lines are great. This makes me think of the fact that after a breakup, everything in life can remind you of things about the other person and you cant take your mind off them. And the next line says that nothing good can last forever or maybe even as extreme as nothing good will last very long at all.

"I'm at a payphone trying to call home
All of my change I spent on you
Where have the times gone, baby it's all wrong
Where are the plans we made for two?"

Again this line, to me, reinforces what i said above. He's maybe trying to get back to how things were before the relationship, but it just doesn't seem to be working because he "spent all his change" (or "burned bridges" as he previously said) in the past.
(in other songs i've heard the reference leaving home meaning leaving behind what you have to start a relationship so that gave me this insight)
Another powerful thing after a relationship is remembering things you had done or had said you were going to do with the other person.

"If "Happy Ever Afters" did exist,
I would still be holding you like this
All those fairy tales are full of shit
One more fucking love song, I'll be sick"

This line is very cynical and makes me realize just how many people after time, end up not being happy with the person they loved for so long. The "fairy tales" also make me think of shows and movies which depict the perfect love story and (almost) always have a happy ending. At the beginning of a relationship most people probably believe they could obtain this but by the end they realize that it is not that easy.

"Oh, you turned your back on tomorrow
'Cause you forgot yesterday
I gave you my love to borrow,
But you just gave it away"

This line could be interpreted two ways; either as a metaphor for the past and future (this would be likely if the couple fell apart rather slowly), or literally (if the couple had a traumatic event that broke them apart). the previous line "its too late to try" leads me to believe that they both still like each other but something else (like a bad event) broke them apart. The next line "i gave you my love to borrow...away" makes me think that it happened slowly over time because she "borrowed" it and then later decided she want it (this i could relate to).

"You can't expect me to be fine,
I don't expect you to care
I know I've said it before,
But all of our bridges burned down"

When the person you care about most doesn't give a fuck how you feel, it can be extremely painful and this line captures it well.
The next lines just a recap of whats been said before.
But ill add the fact that the awkwardness after breakups can foster the feeling that the them getting back together is impossible. And by the other person who broke up being awkward and even bitter, it can seem to "burn the bridges" of any hope.

"Now baby, don't hang up
so i can tell you what you need to know.
Baby i'm begging you just please don't go
so i can tell you what you need to no-oo"

This alternate bridge just captures the disparity of wanting to tell the girl how he feels and have them actually listen. But as previously said in the song she doesn't care. I feel that it totally stays true to the perspective of the song rather than having the rap add ideas like "Screw that person, it was their loss to give that person up." Some people feel like that but i know i definitely didn't.
