It may be about that lifestyle, but I have NEVER thought of it as a criticism. I mean, you really think Supertramp was into long-term relationships? This was how they lived -- a little bit young and arrogant, but in the end, just a commentary on their own lifestyle. But it's not a criticism of the lifestyle -- no shame, no troubles, no worries. Goodbye, stranger; it's been nice.

He doesn't say "the devil is my savior", and he doesn't say "the devil isn't my savior."

He's talking about what other people might say about his behavior: "You can laugh at my behavior; that'll never bother me -- say the devil is my savior, but I don't pay no heed." He's saying "You might say that the devil is my savior, but I don't pay him any heed, so I don't know what the hell you mean."

These are the correct lyrics.

Uh, no. Just because he says the word "veins" doesn't mean he does heroin, and "shining like brand new" refers to the fact that he won't be tied down and growing old with a woman. Mary jane is probably an allusion to marijuana, but I don't think it's necessary to attach it to the mean. It's just a funny way to list women -- "Goodbye Mary; goodbye Jane."

This song isn't in any way about drugs; those are not references. You have half-contrived them from very thin allusions.
