Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young – Marrakesh Express Lyrics 2 years ago
@[walterbyrd:39224] Yeah, pretty straightforward, but some nice lyrics and a pretty melody. Nothing mysterious here.

The Clash – Spanish Bombs Lyrics 2 years ago
@[Tsk8rKFF:38674] You may or may not have no life, but this is a great comment. Coming from an oldster who first heard this back in the day, and who has always loved this song.

The Clash – London Calling Lyrics 2 years ago
Others have expressed good thoughts on this song, I would just add about the line "but while we were talking/ I saw you nodding out" was about people of their age getting into Heroin. (also, the following line: "see we ain't got no high/
Except for that one with the yellowy eye") Strummer remarked on that line in an interview I read long ago. It's just an apocalyptic song in general, and even now, when its power has been a bit sapped by too many appearances in movies, etc ("hey, we have this establishing shot of London, let's be edgy and use London Calling!").

I wasn't quite a teen yet when this album was released, but this song is still one of the anthems of the '70s. It still gives me goose bumps when I listen to it. This song is as much an iconic punk tune as much as any of the Sex Pistols songs. (and the Pistols album is amazing, go listen to it if you never have)

Grateful Dead – Uncle John's Band Lyrics 2 years ago
@[thom52:37862] The best and only comment necessary. The Grateful Dead tended to write songs about their lives and the people they knew. This is a prime example.

Nick Lowe – Cruel To Be Kind Lyrics 3 years ago
I don't think there is anything deep here. It's just a fun, smirky song, based on a funny line from Shakespeare. Lowe is so good at this kind of thing.

Joe Jackson – It's Different For Girls Lyrics 11 years ago
I think there are several ways to interpret this one, and it's almost impossible to say which meaning Jackson intended...that's the sign of a great song. I lean toward the meaning that was stated above, that the girl is saying 'it's just sex, not love', and I agree that it is a sort of role reversal of the commonly believed tropes. But I certainly may be wrong.

I love the structure of this song -- it reminds me of XTC, and Jackson even sings this one like Andy Partridge from XTC probably would. Just a fantastic song.
