Mumford & Sons – Dust Bowl Dance Lyrics 11 years ago
A ballad telling the story of a young man, son of a tenant farmer, in the Dust Bowl region. The father is gone because he died or abandoned the family so the bank is foreclosing on the farm. Rather than giving up, getting up and leaving as others have ("so collect your courage and collect your horse, and pray you never feel the same kind of remorse") the son instead decided to fight back. He gets his gun and when whomever is to take over the property comes to kick the family off (or he goes and hunts them down himself) there is a fight, symbolized in song by the sudden violent instrumental, and the boy hurts or kills him. Now he's in court pleading guilty.

Mumford & Sons – After the Storm Lyrics 11 years ago
I think this song is about overcoming hardship and learning to love one's self, and to trust in love. "There'll come a time, you'll see, with no more tears and love will not break your heart but dismiss your fears" is the most powerful and focal point of the song, and it's about knowing that one day you'll meet someone who won't let you down even though you've been let down so many times before. This song is what got me through my best friend moving away and betraying my trust. The same sort of thing has happened to me many times before and so I don't put a lot of trust or faith in people. But that line told me that one day, if I don't close myself off, I will find love that does not hurt me and let me down but that I can count on and appreciate without fear of losing it.
