| I think you just misunderstood him, either that or are putting words in his mouth. I think the whole suicide cults thing was just his way of expolaining their sound... To be honest, BoC I find to be very creepy as well, their music. It reminds me of 1970's Canada. I'm from Canada, and I know that because Canada is in the name, doesn't intentionally have to do with there sound. But because it is in their name, my brain assosciates it with Canada. And Canada was kinda strange back then, creepy. If I've been up tweakin for a few days, throwing on BoC is creepy as fuck, in an awesome way :) It reminds me of those Film Board of Canada cartoons too.. and we all know they were creepy lol. | |

The following isn't fact, simply my theory, which I think might actually be close to the truth, maybe not... Anyway... I always thought this song was directed towards an ex-girlfriend who broke up with him before he hit it big and became famous... So she breaks up with him, breaks his heart or w/e, and then he becomes the biggest dub step artist in history. So now she's crying herself to sleep, pretending to be happy etc, and he doesn't care. "You knew this day would come, and it did, and you really should have waited." is definitely what made me think o this, but a lot of the other lyrics also sort of portray this meaning. What with all the "I don't cares"... and why should he? she broke his heart, and if she wants him now because he's famous well, she can screw herself basically. I think the song is basically says "haha bet you wish you stayed with me now" Meanwhile deadmau5 is banging super models in his mansion. ....He don't care. |

"It has to be an attack on capitalism, but it uses the extended metaphor of the Junk Bond Trading to talk about the shadowy ways people make money too i.e. drugs. It is also slightly regretful, almost, of the easiness of life before he hit the major labels." -bmccabe I totally agree with this. Firstly, I think a lot of people are getting thrown off by the word "junk" in the title, assuming it means heroin, but it doesn't. A junk bond is an actual thing, they are know as high-risk, or high-yield investments. What you said bmccabe, how people do dirty things to make money, is spot on. Junk bonds, though generally considered poor rated stocks, can be taken advantage of by nifty investors, and potentially can earn you lots of money. This isn't really a "dirty" thing to do, but it's clear that he's making that connection. Also, a lot of his songs blend several related topics, all tied to the same theme. Another theme in this song is definitely how people buy into anything and everything. I don't think he's coming down on the corporations though, but rather on the fools who let themselves get taken advantage of. And the bridge "Happy Holiday...." someone mentioned how he's taking a jab at his recording company. A couple months ago, I got a tattoo of the lyrics: "I dont need a remedy to be everything Im supposed to be" across my inner forearm. :) I love it! |

My brother told me a basic premise a few years ago that he heard from I a friend I believe, I was always led to believe this was the meaning... I have expanded upon what my brother told me, and did a bit of research... But, it's hard to say what it means really, everyone seems to have a different answer. So who fkin knows eh? without further adieu: The singer is at his place alone. His significant other has recently left him, leaving him very depressed. The only physical sign left that shows she was ever even in his life at all is a half smoked cigarette, with only her pink lipstick left behind, staining the filter. And so he decides he's going to take his life. He's basically just so in love but so crazy and selfish at the same time. He's going to kill himself just to make her feel the guilt and 'prove' how much he loved her. And before he does kill he self, he smokes the half smoked cigarette she left behind, inhaling her and tasting her lips one more time... And then the countdown, and he shoots himself in the head. ....Well, that's what I gather from it anyway. I doubt that's correct, might be close though. Who knows actually what he meant word per word when he wrote it. |
