Pulp – Bad Cover Version Lyrics 3 years ago
@[michaelwood:36064]
The 'Til The Band Comes In' line does NOT refer the second five Scott-penned songs, but rather the five cover songs tacked on to the end of the album, which are generally seen as a massive letdown after the brilliance of Scott's songs.

Tears for Fears – Listen Lyrics 3 years ago
The backing vocals were confirmed by the band to be gibberish in a programme from the BBC4 series Classic Albums earlier this year:

Roland: And then when it came to doing those strange backing vocals, it was really...Ian was just throwing these odd Kenyan words at me, and I would sing them, but I don't think they mean anything at all.

Curt: Well, they used to mean "Wrap me up a chicken tikka takeway" is all I remember it, but...

Ian: I'd been to Kenya and knew the Swahili for 'chicken', which is kuku. So the rest of it is nonsense. It's "Humay ana chicken a kuku say." Absolute rubbish. But if you sing it with enough commitment [laughs], you get away with it.

I love how the vocal melodies in the chorus climb and weave their way through the slow groove of the backing track. Nik Kershaw does great album-enders, and this is one of his best.

Nik Kershaw – Human Racing Lyrics 7 years ago
Mr Kershaw channelling Stevie Wonder - beautifully sung, and probably my favourite of his. The video is worth watching too, with its 'dystopian-future-as-viewed-from-the-80s' mood suiting the song very well indeed.

The overall sound of this song is - dare I say it - epic! Really dynamic structure and a vocal melody that complements it brilliantly. I never get bored of listening to it.

Elvis Costello – Accidents Will Happen Lyrics 9 years ago
One of the best singles of the 20th century in my opinion - intelligent, varied, interesting, concise. No idea why it doesn't get played as much as Oliver's Army.

Also, as is typical of this site, the first verse is completely wrong.

"Oh I just don't know where to begin
Though he says he'll wait forever
It's now or never
But she keeps him hanging on
The silly champion
She says she can't go home
Without a chaperone"

Propagandhi – Ladies' Nite in Loserville Lyrics 11 years ago
The girl in the lyrics just sounds like an obnoxious, angry-at-everyone-and-everything feminazi who actively looks for misogyny everywhere and so inevitably finds it. I don't know why the guy is wasting his time talking to her, he should just go and find someone who isn't a despicable misandrist.

BoySetsFire – Unspoken Request Lyrics 11 years ago
"Boy you'll never know how it feels to fear the shame
Feel free to walk down any dark street without fear
Without shame no one is gonna touch you
And you don't need protection"

Simply bullshit. Men are much more likely to be attacked in public places than women, and there is also such a thing as men being raped by other men. Not that lefties let silly things like facts get in the way of their preaching and attempting to mislead others into seeing their skewed point of view. Men "don't need protection"?! Preposterous.

"You will never think he's wrong
You will never think he's wrong
You will never think you're wrong"

And what exactly is the meaning of this? I despise songs that point the finger at the listener. Speak for yourself, Nathan.

NOFX – Kill Rock Stars Lyrics 11 years ago
Reading the lyrics for this gave me a new respect for Fat Mike. It takes a real man to stand up to the evils of feminism, especially nowadays when doing such a thing means being attacked on all sides by the whores and manginas who've been brainwashed by it. The patriarchy is a fictional construct, and feminism is not, and has never been about bringing about equality, only furthering female privilege. Though like all movements that are based on/have an uncanny resemblance to Marxism, it'll destroy itself in the end.

Look up videos of feminists clashing with men's rights activists at the University of Toronto and enjoy watching feminism in its death throes.

NOFX – Kill Rock Stars Lyrics 11 years ago
Third wave feminism is the most overtly misandristic form of feminism, and is now busy imploding, as its followers are intent on being as loud and obnoxious as possible and people are inevitably seeing them as the laughing stock they are.

That's just something you have to put up with on this site. For some reason even if you submit the correct lyrics, they'll just leave the incorrect ones up there. I tried it with the Pixies' Motorway To Roswell.

Propagandhi – Refusing To Be A Man Lyrics 11 years ago
I've been a Propagandhi fan ever since I first heard Anti-Manifesto on Fat Music For Fat People and I've liked them more and more with every album. But as I get older, this song and the obscure Ladies' Nite In Loserville have really started to stick out.

It's a real paradox that a band as intelligent as Propagandhi support something as fraudulent as feminism, and the fallacy that it's about bringing about equality. This song is a flagrant affront to both masculinity and humanity, and insulting and belittling them is going to add nothing to any kind of social progress.

"And potential rapists all are we" - this is just parroting hateful feminist dogma, and is completely risible as a result. Speak for yourself, I am no potential rapist.

"But don't tell me this is natural" - no, don't YOU dare tell me that what I am naturally is not natural. Just because male sexuality is 'inconvenient' to the reality that feminists want to fabricate, it is what it is. If you want to deny your own true self, then go ahead, but DON'T tell other people that they should be doing the same.

Also, the lines that imply that it's just men that objectify are bullshit. Women do it too, because they're human, and hey! Whaddaya know...IT'S NATURAL.

Did the late Tony Sly get singing lessons before recording this album? His voice sounds quite different to how it did on More Betterness and when I first heard it I thought NUFAN had gone and got themselves a new singer.

Battle Royale is famous enough.

The actual title of this song is more-or-less the first line. The American marketing people thought it was too long-winded, and instead chose 'sukiyaki', or beef hotpot. How appropriate.

Elbow – Snowball Lyrics 12 years ago
This is my transcription, which I posted on the message board of one of the more-frequented Elbow fansites not long after the Help album was released in 2005. Seems like it soon spread to all the lyric sites.

Guy Garvey said in an interview around the time that the song 'Leaders of the Free World' was like a clip round the ear for the crooked politicians taking us into wars that only benefit them and their big business bedfellows. He said he was so angry at them that it seemed better to belittle them than attack them. I think all that anger with them comes out in this song. I particularly like the ideas about the presence of their victims following them around and haunting them until their dying days. Pray you never sleep again.
