Thank you for the first interpretation that suggests some accountability. As a guy, I get really tired of the attitude that it's the man's failing if he doesn't have the endurance and stamina to endure the woman's character flaws. "...otherwise he wouldn't have given up on her." As if his strength and maturity is judged by how excusing he is of the lady's drama. Life is short, and there are plenty of beautiful people out there who DON'T have baggage. Maybe Fiona's song character's relationship was doomed anyway until she realized she had her own issues to clean up and not depend on the guy to do so. |

Just wanted to point out the phrase before: "I (ve) got to fold" suggesting that the shaky hands are also card hands. She keeps getting dealt bad hands that are "shaky" so she must fold. I think it's a clever lyric. |
