Sparklehorse – Little Fat Baby Lyrics | 11 years ago |
I first saw this in the last.fm description for the song, and after some google-ing stumbled across an article that suggests it is (at least partially) about Vic Chesnutt: Poignantly, Linkous would add “borrowed lines” from his dear friend Vic Chesnutt to the tenth track, ‘Little Fat Baby.’ The Vic Chesnutt song in question was ‘Myrtle’. The following is ‘Myrtle’s last verse: “I’m not an optimist, I’m not a realist I might be a subrealist but I can’t substantiate It was bigger than me and I felt like a sick child Dragged by a donkey, through the myrtle” (–‘Myrtle’, taken from Vic Chesnutt’s 1996 album ‘About to Choke’) Linkous would incorporate ‘Myrtle’ (across each verse) into ‘Little Fat Baby’: “He got dragged by a donkey Through the dust and the myrtle But he was once a little fat baby” (–‘Little Fat Baby’, taken from the Sparklehorse 2001 album ‘It’s A Wonderful Life’) http://fracturedair.com/2013/01/15/the-last-waltz-mark-linkous/ |

for the record, the "your" instead of "you" in the song title was driving me crazy, so that was the extent of my editing, ha. ...also this song is incredible, heartbreakingly so. |

Since no one seems to be grasping this connection in any of the songs referring to "weathermen".... "The Weathermen, is a New York City-based, underground hip-hop supergroup consisting of Aesop Rock, Tame One, Cage, Yak Ballz, El-P, and Breeze Brewin. ***The group took its name from the revolutionary organization Weatherman, and sometimes refers to itself as the "New Left"."*** see: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Weather_Underground |

Radiohead – Give Up the Ghost Lyrics | 12 years ago |
Idk, everything people have said previously is as valid as what I have to say. But having lost someone I dearly loved, much too soon at the age of 23, I have a different kind of relationship to this song. My close friend was taken from me, and I don't want him to "haunt me" or "hurt me" anymore with the memory of his untimely and violent end, and perhaps I even want to "give up [his] ghost" so that I can be at peace, but letting go is never, ever that simple. I look at this song as a struggle between wanting to be happy and to move on, but also lacking the ability to do so. |
