I love this song, so suitable for the Dwarves of Erebor.
However maybe because I've been on a Elder Scrolls binge, but it reminds me so much of the Dunmer who had to leave Morrowind when the Red Mountain exploded. Seriously change "Durin's Sons" for "Azura's Sons" and you have yourself a Lament of the Dunmer people. |

This song can seem like so many things thanks to the beautiful imagery coursing through it, and I too have my own interpretation.
It may sound odd but I think this is a battle within a person, in this case a woman. I think she's facing a time in her life where she feels like she must grow up and hide away the inner child that everyone has within them. To me at least I think this is something she's doing to the wrong extent, almost as if as she grows up she buries those childish feelings thinking that they are wrong, even though that may not be the case.
The 'labyrinth walls' are where she's trapped the 'child' within herself, and when she mentions setting her free, it's about any potential lovers who may try to bring out that more childish side that she's buried inside herself.
Towards the end of the song, the main character seems to regret suppressing her inner child and seems to lose a piece of herself, mentioning 'for I see what I destroy'. She finally sees that all along she has been hurting herself emotionally, as she says 'sweet reflection knife into me' she sees what she's done and how she can't reverse her actions - she can't regain her inner child. |

Completely lame and it's probably just me but this reminds me so much of Shepard's and Garrus' romance storyline in Mass Effect 2 + 3.
Two people who found each other through the pain of their pasts, and the fear of the future. They've lost people on their journey, but can find happiness with each other. Mumford and Sons have a wonderful ability to tell such wonderful stories with their music and lyrics. |

My first impression was that this is about a man who is stood up at the alter. The idea of both people with tragic paths coming together and then she pulling out at the last moment.
The opening is like the ritual of a wedding but the idea of the 'white blank page' seems like he'd have liked a note about why she left, but she left him nothing instead. |

This song reminds me of the myths of Sirens/Mermaids/Selkies, the idea of a man meeting a 'Ocean daughter' and falling in love with her.
It's a lovely song I just wish there were more lyrics for the rest of the album. |

Reading through the lyrics I'm not sure I see the biblical reference. The song seems to speak about much more about other issues like War, the environment or just a strange story about a war with the animals. Although I would like to listen to what makes you think of Hagar and Ishmael. |

This song, like most of the songs on the album is amazing. I love the seafaring style and you really can almost hear the slow movement of the whale and the somber happiness of the people who live on the whale's back. I love the fantastical story to the song. |

Pretty obvious. I always love the words 'I forgot out loud how beautiful you really are to me.' I love how she sings it. Those words always remind me of how much you can love some one and forgot to tell them how much you love them, how beautiful they are. |
