The Reign Of Kindo – Breathe Again Lyrics 8 years ago
I just heard this song in my car for the first time. For the first half, I tuned out the lyrics, b/c he mentioned Christmas, and I was like oookay, not for me, but I liked the way it sounded so I didn't skip it, and once I heard him mention a gun... oh it was on. I couldn't stop laughing. I swear, I thought he was talking about killing Santa Claus and giving his kids all the toys he'd been carrying on his sleigh.

I thought it was brilliant! I mean awful, but by far comical... told myself I'd come home and look up the lyrics, and now I'm like.... ah... well... nevermind >.>

it's certainly not as entertaining now. More disturbing/awkward, but I've heard worse, so no real complaints. It's just weird, b/c I never took this band for making dark songs.

Fleetwood Mac – Gypsy Lyrics 10 years ago
I agree. Like the 80s version of I'm Like a Bird. But b/c she says it all comes down to you, I think it's her saying if you're the right type of guy, I may stay but if you're not, I'll be out of your life like a gypsy.

To the gypsy
That remains
She faces freedom
With a little fear

I see that as someone who stayed with a decent guy and knows he isn't exactly what she wants, but she fears leaving because she doesn't know if she'll find better.

Well I have no fear
I have only love

But Stevie has no fear and is looking for the "one" to give her love to.

And if I was a child
And the child was enough
Enough for me to love
Enough to love

Basically she's saying she wants a man. B/c a childish man isn't enough, in general. He's not enough of a man for her to love him, and he's not man enough for her to want to love him. I don't think I've correctly explained the depth of that, but that's the gist of it. I just wanted to show support and help bridge the gaps.

Actually, @ ariana, to be fair, it is about artists who sing about materialism as their platform (which isn't just black people), think Fergie, Glamorous. She loves Drake, Miley, etc but to be candid, their premise doesn't revolve around materialism alone/specifically.

From the girl herself -

"It's something we've always been very aware of… that our lives are super mundane and we're basically in this transition period waiting for something to happen to us. And then the song came out and people were like, "We never thought about it like this," but I think a lot of young people were just happy that someone was acknowledging that mundanity."

http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2013/07/24/lorde-interview_n_3644831.html

She just sang it to express how unrelatable pop music is to the average joe. She wasn't saying she didn't like it, just that certain songs don't reach her; they annoy her. They annoy me!

@cmm I like your view of being Queen. I always thought she meant being president or prime minister or yes, I'll say it, ruling behind the scenes like the moneybag investors that run the Federal Reserve & essentially run the country... but your idea is actually, valid. It's a normal dream to want to rule your household and since she was leading a normal life, it makes PERfect sense!!!

Imagine Dragons – Radioactive Lyrics 10 years ago
"That's basically a song about my struggle with anxiety and depression," Reynolds says. "It's about becoming self-empowered and rising above that. I wanted to write a masculine and primal song about conjuring and rising above human weakness..."

This is an anthem of empowerment. Overcoming something that is supposed to oppress you. Radiation kills white blood cells, internal tissues. It destroys the body slowly.

* I'm waking up to ash and dust,

He was asleep for a looong time. That's usually what those w/ depression & anxiety do, they stop "living." From exp, excessive sleep is a symptom.

* I wipe my brow and I sweat my rust,

Sweat my rust, could be another analogy, calling himself a robot (like that antidepressant commercial with the windup doll). When you haven't moved in a while, you start to rust.

* I'm breathing in, the chemicals.

Chemicals could symbolically represent something that resurrects his soul falling in love, inspiration, a new atmosphere. Remember, this whole song is symbolic...

* I'm breaking in, shaping up, then checking out on the prison bus.

He's breaking into the idea of freedom. Learning what he needs to understand from this troubling situation. Getting fit and ready to escape.

Then checking out like it's a hotel stay. He's not meant to stay in that prison. He's leaving the prison of his mind. Reynolds was still doing things, going places (bus takes you places) but he was still trapped inside himself.

* This is it, the apocalypse, whoa.

He's breaking free and fighting back. Overcoming his depression and anxiety. The apocalypse is a time of turmoil, do or die. This is his mindset.

* I'm waking up, I feel it in my bones.
Enough to make my systems blow.

He's waking up and it feels so intense, so invigorating, he feels like he's gonna explode.

* Welcome to the new age, to the new age.

He says it celebratory which is why I don't think it's NWO related. It's a new time in his life, an awakening. A new awareness.

* Whoa, whoa, radioactive, radioactive.

"having or producing a powerful and dangerous form of energy"

http://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/radioactive

* I raise my flags, don my clothes,

He's changing his outward appearance and personality to fit his new outlook.

* It's a revolution I suppose.

Now he's raising a revolt, bringing his band into the mix. They're all fighting back

* We'll paint it red, to fit right in, whoa.

Sure it's related to Communism, but for his song, he's doing it b/c that's the color of war and opposition. They're fighting their oppressors.

The fact that the war is against mental illness is lame, yes, but inspirational nevertheless. It's a general "you can conquer w/e is holding you back" song. If you wanna view it as more than it is by claiming it's an anti-illuminati tune. I won't stop you.

There are always double meanings to songs written by powerful minds. But based on his vocal interpretation, this is what the song means.

Florence + the Machine – Leave My Body Lyrics 11 years ago
I agree with another person, it can be interpreted in a number of ways. I got obsessed with this song during a breakup so that's how I'm gonna break it down.

I'm gonna be released from behind these lies
And don't care whether I live or die
And I'm losing blood, I'm gonna leave my bones
And I don't want your heart it leaves me cold

I see this whole cd directed at one breakup really. This is her releasing herself from the lies she's been hiding behind. She's so tired of the frustration of the relationship that she just doesn't care anymore. The relationship is bleeding her dry and she just wants to escape her body. She doesn't want his heart b/c after what's happened between them, it'll only make it worse. Maybe he was a guy Florence loved but he wasn't as into her and hurt her to the point where she said to hell with it all.

I don't want your future
I don't need your past
One grand moment
Is all I ask

All she wanted was a positive era in her life (with him). Not marriage, but a good relationship for once. Enjoyable fun but he couldn't/Wouldn't give that to her. He made it a frustrating experience.

I'm gonna leave my body (Moving up to higher ground)
I'm gonna lose my mind (History keeps pulling me down)
Said I'm gonna leave my body (Moving up to higher ground)
I'm gonna lose my mind (History keeps pulling me, pulling me down)

So she leaves her body metaphorically. Her entire being. Loses her mind as someone similarly said "turning off her thoughts" Florence tries to move to a higher ground of thinking and feeling but former relationships and memories keep pulling her back down, keep her thinking there will never be any better and she'll never find someone who'll bring her joy and love in life.

I don't need a husband, don't need no wife
And I don't need the day, I don't need the night, the night
Don't need the birds let them fly away
And I don't want the clouds, they never seem to stay

Maybe she's bi, either way she's in the process of changing her mindset b/c she's angry. She doesn't need the good times (day) or the bad (night). She doesn't need hope/the highs (the birds) or sorrow/the lows (the clouds).

I see birds as hope/optimism b/c they soar high and are free, that's how a relationship usually begins. I see clouds as sorrow b/c of Eeyore and that rain cloud x3 the sadness never seems to stay and b/c she's bitter about her most recent relationship, she's upset that she'll eventually get over it only to start over again with someone new. If the clouds stuck around, she wouldn't have to worry about falling in love again.

I don't want no future (Want your future)
I don't need no past (Need no past)
One grand moment (One grand moment)
Is all I ask

I don't want no future (Want your future)
I don't need no past (Need no past)
One grand moment (One grand moment)
Is all I ask

She's moved on from speaking about him, now she doesn't want Any future or past in General. Florence just wants a pleasant present tense life without him. Some joy, some peace, some Fun.

I'm gonna leave my body (Moving up to higher ground)
I'm gonna lose my mind (History keeps pulling me down)
Said I'm gonna leave my body (Moving up to higher ground)
I'm gonna lose my, lose my mind (History keeps pulling me, pulling me down)

So she's leaving her body and going to a higher place, a wiser mindset, trying to adjust her way of being so she doesn't make the same mistakes but those memories and thoughts keep coming back and making her doubt if she can pull it off.

Felt like I should elaborate

Rami Yacoub- 37
Carl Falk- 32
Savan Kotecha- unknown but he's old enough to be lead vocal coach on x-factor/an award winning songwriter (crazy how many famous songs he's written, you should wiki him) and he's kinda cute, but anyway xD
(all three of them wrote What Makes You Beautiful as well)

One Direction – Live While We're Young Lyrics 11 years ago
I'm not a 1D chick. My time was with the Jonas Brothers, the Backstreet Boys, and N'Sync (which by the way, at least their singles weren't blatantly sex related, they just made some sexy music vids xD).

I paid little mind to Live While We're Young till my 13 year old sister told me it's about sex. Epic fail. Well actually, maybe wise... perhaps them making this song the first single off their album (and it was played repeatedly on the Target commercial for their cd) is their way of saying this cd is not intended for little girls. How else can they say our music is for an older audience. It would be inappropriate to say "parents please don't let your kids listen to me, I'm a bad influence." In that case, if the parents Listened to the singers, and filtered and Blocked the music played on MTV and the radio, Nicki Minaj, Rihanna, and Lady Gaga (yes Gaga, all her music was sex related when she first came out) would be one hit wonders, if even thAt x3

The boys Looked like cookie cutter goodie two shoes but as soon as it hits the tv tabloids that Harry dates older/older than my mom's age women, you parents should've been weary; God knows I was and I don't even care!

And who says their original fanbase was directed at little kids. In You Don't Know Your Beautiful (most annoying song in the world that even my, then, 15 year old brother liked) was directed at a teenager not, little 5 year olds.

I digress, if they were going to make their music for a mature audience, they should've done it at the beginning, but don't you guys know the music industry? You make music the parents find acceptable/music that makes you seem like nice boys to get your foot in the door, then after you've sold out concerts, on the next album, be yourself and spread your message, whatever that message may be. In their case, their need for one night stands. Whatever.

Oh, and here's another thing, producers and an American song writer wrote those lyrics. :) so blame them!
Live While We're Young was Written by Rami Yacoub, Carl Falk and Savan Kotecha. None of the boys wrote that. Produced by Yacoub and Falk.

This is the image the record company & producers want them to have.

Yet again, we see singers performing song and dance as the puppets of the industry.

The Fray – Trust Me Lyrics 12 years ago
I agree with this more than anything, but certain lyrics of the song I like to imagine are about bf/gf relationships, it's much more romantic and it fits the music better. But it's not about that. They wrote the song as if someone from a record company talked to them bout the negative control over the music industry.

I think it could've been one of the producers or someone "in the know" who he called a friend for telling them the truth, but also a foe b/c the wise man was playing for the wrong team. But he still gave them some good info.

Like "we don't want you to see, we come and we go." That could mean that their potential record company didn't want The Fray to see what they do to their popularity, their paychecks, and importantly, their music. All these ppl, producers, bosses, the top ppl of the record company have a say in what they sing & how it sounds and EVERYTHING and these people come and go. Anyone ever looked at all the producers & diff ppl who were involved in each song on an album? Here today gone tomorrow. No one's ever really there w/ them permanently in that business. So it'd be easy for them to get lost. They could record a song and the producer, maybe, could change it, and b/c they signed the contract, it'd have to stay that way. Or b/c the producer's in a different country or state working w/ another artist, it'd have to stay that way here today gone tomorrow. Secret evils that they don't want the band to know about.

The ppl in charge over those companies practically hold the world in their hands. They manipulate and influence what we hear from our favorite artists. The bosses pass on the necessary info to the new CEOs. Info that none of us "regular" ppl are supposed to know and so the corrosion of music continues decade after decade. It's always been this way and that wise person was telling them that when they're older they'll understand the imperfections of the music industry.

He told the wise man that because they know so few ppl in the buisness, telling him who they knew would only prove that the wise guy needs them less than they need him. And then Sir Wisdom told them that they, he and the big bosses don't give sympathy (think of Britney Spears, and artists that they force into getting hooked on drugs to continue releasing music) and that they should trust him, they should trust nobody.

And Joe & Issac admit to the wise man that they don't have honesty b/c there's stuff they don't want to say. What they didn't wanna say was that altho they just heard how the record company will push & pull and manipulate them into doing things Their way, they still want to go for it and try. Then they say they'll try to get out but they know they won't, cause the industry is evil and once you get in, most of the time it's like selling your soul to the devil, not literally, but when you're under contract, etc, you're kinda stuck.

Traffic is perfectly still. Could mean the conversation in that verse screeched to a halt. I think they made that verse romantic sounding so it could fool ppl into thinking it was about getting older or relationships. I doubt they would've gotten away w/ a song like this if they'd made it completely blatant. LUCKILY, it looks like the record company aren't forcing The Fray into anything or twisting their songs and such so woot-woot

Rihanna – We Found Love Lyrics 12 years ago
I've watched the music video at Least 40 times. I may've watched it 10 times a day for a few days because I was dealing with a breakup and it captivated me. It shows exactly how I felt. My hopeless place was the age difference, the distance, and the fact that we were POLAR opposites and had different morals, like he believed in lying and Im more than a fan of honesty. Anyways, I don't believe this had a Thing to do with drugs, the video or the lyrics. I liked NowandNever's opinion of the yellow diamonds lyric.

This is loooong, but based on the music video and how many times I've watched it, i've broken down the relationship she's portraying (and I must say it's the deepest music video I've ever seen. Especially coming from a pop star. And no, I'm not a Rihanna fan. I don't like her at all really, just the song resonated w/ me during a hard time in my life.)

At the very beginning, during the speech, that's the part when they were single. In the bathtub, when we see him wet like he'd just been under water (which could metaphorically represent him drowning in misery, till he first saw her? Maybe he saw her at a club or the store, but we see them in a bathtub, maybe b/c they're both in a rough place in their lives so they're "in the same boat?") we see him staring at her and she looks and does a double look, as though she's shocked he's noticing her. In another scene seconds away we see them on opposite sides of the tub, watching each other. she almost looks suspicious and if you look close enough, she takes a gulp. Representing how it feels when you're getting to know some1 who Really likes you. All the scenes that continue when they're not around each other show how it was before they met each other. With Rihanna dropping to her knees in the field, him walking the road alone, her looking out the window, him looking towards his drumset, maybe a dream he gave up... Then there's the crazy part that i still can't explain, she gives him the cigarette to smoke but he doesn't exhale the smoke, she does. The third bathtub scene, she gives him the ok, and comes over to him, instead of kissing him, she leans against his chest, probably b/c she needed somewhere to rest emotionally and physically cause she looked like she'd been crying. And then they share the first kiss, and he's shirtless maybe, metaphorically, to show that he's giving his all to this relationship from the start? She's still dressed to show that she's guarded? And then the relationship begins as the song starts up.

A major detail, the slot machine. It says play now. They were beginning the game of love annnd since love is a gamble... I'm not sure what the lightening strike was for though. Now from that part till my next paragraph it's the beginning of the rela, when everything's new, they Just started dating and they're happy and Rihanna's doing crazy stuff like running thru a field shirtless to express the freedom she feels with him. They're happy & free. Now when she says "As your shadow crosses mine" you see a car and a road in the background, alSo representing the start of their relationship. They're on the road together. Moving forward. (Take note of that. Forward.) Happy happy happy, sky and clouds, freedom, joy. Oo, now I love the skatepark part b/c well, i think it's a metaphor, yes, again. The guy goes down first w/o hesitation and looks back at Rihanna she's nervous/excited bout it and based on her hand gesture, she says, ok, i'm gonna do it. She slides down the ramp and into his arms. Safely. I think that represented falling in love and being caught at the bottom. He's so happy that she did it that he lifts her up and spins her around, then they're on their floor w/ their hands in the air. They're victorious. No one's hurt, they're still happy. She starts the chorus and flowers are growing around her, their romance is growing into something beautiful.

The talking bass. Still happy, she's jumping on tables and stuff could represent that she starts telling the world, her friends, family, bout this love that she's found and she's so happy w/ him that she doesn't care who knows. And, the guy's happy about that of course. Background of Rihanna, fields, freedom. Then the pill scenes start up representing that the addiction has officially begun. First time they have sex, fireworks. They're jumping around and happy b/c everything's going perfectly, without a hitch. Freedom. Pattern.

Shine a light through an open door
Love and life I will divide
means once you've peeked through the door, made sure everything's safe, which is what they did during the dating and falling in love periods, love and life begin to separate. The life you had before him becomes mute. You don't hang w/ the girls anymore or spend time w/ your family as much...

Turn away cause I need you more,
Feel the heartbeat in my mind.
she's realizing she needs him more so she's starting to pull away and the destruction begins,(around the same time the destructive behavior starts in the m.vid). she feels her heart racing when she's near him and she knows she's falling too deep into her addiction to him.

Back to the vid, they're shop lifting together. I think, once again, it's a metaphor. The innocent fun they had at the beginning became boring so they had to take it up a notch. Maybe just being together wasn't enough, maybe they had to do bad deeds to get that high that they had when they first started. What I think is the guy was too calm for Rihanna. That she's crazy, because from the beginning, she was doin some wild shit. I think she was starting to get bored w/ him & She initiated the wrong doings. b/c when she was in the cart and he was pushing it down the street, she was ecstatic, he was happy, but it didn't seem like his style, not something he'd have normally down if she hadn't been in his life. And i think she's the one that got him to start smoking in the beginning too.

Flashing lights, but it's nighttime in the background as Rihanna sings. So remember that road and that car they were in at the beginning? In the background when they were moving forward? Now they're starting to go in circles, and RiRi's still ok b/c the relationship is still fun in her eyes. Rihanna wants to know that they're meant to be for sure, so she calls him over to the slot machine, and they play the love game. (Though they'd been playing the whole time, since the beginning of the song, when i mentioned the machine, BUT I think this time they want to know if they're meant to be together forever. The machine keeps saying no. Life's challenges keep saying no. Their differences keep saying no.) And they're both mad.

We see Ri w/ tears down her face throwing a dart. Their love is a hit and miss. And she bases her throw on the fact that "WE HAVE ESP" on her tshirt. Idk bout you, but when i was in love w/ my ex, we had esp, BIG time. He could sense when i was upset, he'd text me as soon as i started thinking about him. We were on FIRE w/ that esp stuff, but apparently, that wasn't enough. Their relationship (& mine) was a hit and miss. Controlled demolition. They were destroying their relationship from the inside out. There are a lot of ways for how they pulled that off, maybe they were too set in their ways and no one can Really change. Maybe they were too different or maybe they didn't know how to handle trouble in relationships.

So we see them in the car and they're driving in circles and ri slaps the dashboard and yells for him to stop. In the arguing stages, when the problems in the relationship aren't fixed, circles start to develop and OH GOD do they do damage! Police lights, not sure what that was about. Constant arguing, drinking. She gets out the car. She gets out of the relationship... then the happy times of them together cross the screen. I believe she was reminiscing the good times. Background, burning house, it could've been their love being so misguided and them being so immature in themselves that they couldn't control their love's flame and in letting problems and situations go undiscussed and get out of control, they burned themselves and the rela down. So, I think she was thinking over the entire relationship, the good and the bad, and how they lost control, and eventually she returns to the car, to the relationship.

And I've said enough, way too much. The rest of the details in between should be obvious from here.

Goldfrapp – Happiness Lyrics 12 years ago
I've been watching the music video all day with free on demand. I loved it and decided to post the lyrics onto my myyearbook page but maaan... I wasn't expecting those to be the lyrics. I agree they're creepy. The introduction to the music video said this: "Goldfrapp's Seventh Tree fuses the pagan folk of cult English horror classic The Wicker Man, to a lush backdrop of electronics and a restrained orchestral sweep reminiscent of the '70s-era. Video:"Happiness"" So, yeah, it's about a cult.

I was scared to watch the video after reading that, but my gosh, it's so pleasant. I'm depressed from a breakup but this song is so cheery, and somehow hopeful, in ref to the chorus, that i keep listening to it! I thought that the white rabbit literally was happiness in the music video. He crossed people's paths and made some of them happy. And I noticed that the children and teenagers on their bikes were jumping too and I think that insinuated that they'd found happiness in each other's company. Sounds far-fetched, I suppose but that's all I've got.

I agree, I don't think the lyrics and music video are connected. "Take Me to Broadway" was an awesome find. They were extremely similar.
