I do agree with srwilder. Maynard's mom had all these bad things happen to her, but she still believed in Christianity, which angered Maynard. He's saying, "If God is so righteous and almighty, why is he letting this happen?" |

I personally think this song has to do with an addiction to alcohol or drugs. The addict may not want to be addicted, but the addicted part of his mind is telling him to "go back to sleep" or take the drug to soothe the part of him that wants the drug. |

I think that it's about a girl going through puberty, and how all the other girls are pretty but she's not. So she's aching to pupate in the way that she wants to sleep and then wake up an adult. She wants to skip the akward phase and she just wants to change. |

The mechanical voice is basically like a demon trying to tempt human to hurt himself and others and it causes him to go crazy. In this song, the human concludes that he must kill him self to kill the mechanical voice. So he tries. Then comes Hurt. You find out that when he tried to kill himself, he killed the mechanical voice only. The human has won, but he's scarred for life from his experience so he kills himself again. That's what I think. But only Trent knows for sure. |
