The beatles effectively started to falter after the death of brian epstein...and yes..long and winding road was the last released - but not recorded - abbey road was recorded last and released prior to let it be..the producer was phil spector(let it be)....abbey road turned out to be one of their finest and the beatles remain above all in rock and roll groups.. the sessions to let it be were a disaster and the boys were looking to do a "special one off" with george martin to end on a good note........abbey road was it. |

Gods hand is in this song, in listening to this and reading to the above lyrics at the same time - i had an epiphany - this is God in our lives... the agopy love he extends, no matter what the circumstances sets the example for how we are to live with our loved ones and fellow man. now it is a love song, but extends very much further into how this love should transcend to all.. |

I believe this song to be a snipe at peter gabriel , by those left in genesis after his 1975 departure. I believe, this being the first album after peter left, and with tensions between the remaining members and peter this was a song about him leaving for "bigger and better things".(city of gold) horns and tail - peters zany outfits worn that seemed tobe getting him the most attention of all during the final years of his tenure with the band. i believe - he is the "beast" - the tabloids and press are the pokers/jabbers and "publicity stunt" same. |
