@[redpandafire:21992] I totally agree. Given what happened this week I can't get this song out of my head. When I was young, Chester meant everything to me. I hadn't listened to LP in a very long time and when I listened to this song last night it flooded me.

I never thought it could be possible to miss someone so much who I never even knew personally. But that is the amazing thing about Elliott. He becomes a beloved friend by proxy of his music.
The way in which he wrote was so perfectly relatable, and he is well known to have written that way on purpose. He has stated that his songs are like dreams, that most of them are about nothing and no one in particular. Yet they are so vastly relatable that it is mind boggling. He was so fundamentally different by nature, a truly, TRULY one of a kind person. But the way one can relate to his words, the complex feelings he evokes, on an exceedingly deep level is something that I can't even explain with words. And that was just Elliott being Elliott. It blows my mind that someone so inadvertently talented ever even existed.
It is truly tragic that those with the most honest and tenderly beautiful souls are those who just can't belong in this world. I'm sad that he's not here but I am forever grateful for the impact he's made on my life. I love him dearly and I miss him just the same. |

I don't think this song necessarily reguards mental illness at all. I think this song is way more relatable I guess. I think the singer is talking to somebody who is just unhappy and hating life. It's about the power of love between two people bolstering you out of a shitty situation... Really knowing that the person you love is behind you 100 percent. And something like that makes you feel like you could take on the whole world. At least that's how I feel and why it's mine and my boyfriend's "song". Heheh. Never had a song before :) |
