I've listened to this song quite a few times, and there's one meaning that allows ALL the lyrics to make sense to me, and I can relate to it very well. It's likely a song about graduation, and having to part with friends and move onto different paths. The singer wants to wish all his friends good luck with their futures, encouraging them to believe in their potentials (the "gold" they've got). And he'll always treasure those friends. I originally thought that this song could be sung from the point of view of a teacher to a very talented student, but a teacher is not likely to consider one student their "treasure" and that "all I need is you by my side". It could also be from a parent to a child, even though the writer (Adam Young) is fairly young doesn't have children. And "by my side" would more likely be speaking to friends of the same age. I'd love to have this song played or even perform it at my graduation the end of this year (: |

| Most love songs are about one partner's deep passion and attachment to the other, but deadmau5 perfectly illustrates the stone cold melancholy of the other side who does not feel strongly at all. I really think that deadmau5 should write more lyrics, because he's quite good at it. | |

If jojofursure's interpretation is right, this is how I would analyse it: "It's been so long I've been out of my body with you, I feel alone feel at home feel like nothing is true" - his individuality is being destroyed by modern society's conformity. It brainwashes him that he should feel at home in such a desentisized world. "She took me to a place where my senses gave way, turn it round shut it down what the people say" - a special someone took him where he can feel accepted for being himself, and forget about all the sh*t that people have been talking about him. "Climbing up killing time let them give you some, take my hand and let it come let it come" - forgetting everything and realising his true identity is like a moment of nirvana. "Take it back where she knows that you're doing it right, 'cos everybody else knows what they're taking tonight" - go back to the time when he is doing the right thing by being himself, rather than what society made him to be, while everyone else keeps taking the "drug" of society's brainwashing. "But I just wanna play it right, we are gonna get there tonight" - he just wants to keep going and break out of this social norm, and just have fun for being himself. "It's been so long I've been walking the line on my own, lift me up to the stars we are coming home" - he's felt alone and excluded for some time, and tonight he gets to rediscover his old self. "I know we had a chase but we're out of time, we have sold in the cold physical design" - an expression of disappointment of what has already become of him. This is one amazingly beautiful track, my absolute favourite out of every song I've ever listened to (: It was originally only the first 3.5 minutes and was called "Then We Stood Still", before deadmau5 developed it into Strobe. So he didn't write the whole thing at once - hope that helps with your interpretations. |

| I think that in this song Lights talks about a relationship, where she wants to spend her life together with that one person, no matter what happens and what it takes - "no matter where we are, or which way the wind blows, or how heavy the snow, nothing can change where we would go." Their future lives are yet undetermined as they are "two sparks", and they have passed through the stage in their relationship where they were the most "in love" and obsessing for each other - hence "summer", but still "keeping the heat on", keeping their love going. She doesn't care if they "find themselves in Siberia", meaning that even if they end up in a desolate situation, she would still stick by that person. | |

Tjallen900's interpretation is my favourite. However we can also look at it as the singer being in a relationship where his partner has been abusive, controlling or unreasonable, and it makes more sense that he sings to/about the same person throughout the whole tune rather than suddenly switching halfway through a verse. He wants to "run away without you", because he would feel more safe that way, but doesn't know where else to go after leaving her. When he sings "you can be me, I will become you tonight", he could be talking about the switching of roles in their relationship, with him becoming the more dominant, aggressive one and she has to endure, because he desires revenge.
