| This song is about standing up for one's beliefs in society. It's tough to speak up against those in power and would be safer if we didn't ("We don't bleed when we don't fight") but if we don't fight we're going to lose what we have; if you throw your arms in the air (give up) we'll lose our shirts in the fire. He doesn't enjoy getting beat down by his fight but it's important and he wants you to join him and stop letting things get worse around you, because you're afraid. | |

| I agree with many of you that he's at a party without his girl. He's completely uncomfortable there, and he wants to be home with her, but he has a responsibility to stay. Why? Because he's becoming a big shot, his fame is growing and he's expected to spend time at functions like this. He made the mistake of not bringing her with him, though, because she's not part of this side of his life and just maybe because he wanted to pick up other women at this event. But he's shy and anxious and wants to get out of the fast lane and back to the "slow" life with her when he can joke around and be himself.
