| Beirut is an amazing example of not needing lyrics to express words. Gulag orkestrar is amazing because this is a guy from US experimenting with traditional european music. It sounds Russian, and is. Most of his arrangements are borrowed from classical music. Gulag is the Russian equivalent of Guantanamo, politically. But the Gualg was at the end of the world, at the end of trans-siberia, under 9 months of "night" and some of the best Russians spent hard time(s) there. If you think this sounds sad, spend some time with your local Russian expat, they just consider it realism. | |

Choas theory supersedes string theory but both are far superior to the ridiculous science in the bible. Science has all but been wiped out by discredit over and over again by different religious/political quests- in the form here as an "embassy" that tries to deny you access, therefore, gaining power. Like the scientific method that has to discount every option before reaching a conclusion. Facts take years of concentrated effort to prove or you can just lie, like spies do. Party Party Party- Afterparty is my favorite part because it unites these two themes of politics and religion. It's like replying "yes, please" to the question of "Sex?". "Are you politically active?" "Yes. I vote Afterparty!" If we collectively decide to stop giving our time and energy to power-hungry politicians and god-worship, what are we left to awe at but ourselves- We're amazing! They'll still exist, but I don't care. I'm in too busy awe-ing myself. |

| The whole album, the moon and antarctica is inspired from this one crazy guy's pages and pages of writings. His name was Ed, he sent Isaac Brock a bunch of poetry which only "i came as a rat" was legible. All the rest was Isaac putting himself in this guy's shoes. What it must be like to be completely lost in the world with no sense of normal social interaction. If you multiply loneliness with paranoia you discover that what is real is not much different from what is completely made up, ie Religion. Dark Center of the Universe is about how the guy sleeping in on park benches got there. Everyone treats him crappy because they think he deserves it "it took a lot of work to be the ass that I am...." but in the grand scheme of things (Isaacs favorite pov) he's got the same value as any one of us. We are actually the assholes. | |
