Exactly, you hit the nail on the head.

It's not about someone in a coma, it's about Rick being bullied out of the band before The Wall, losing his confidence & feeling like he had nothing more to contribute. It's about depression, feeling worthless & losing one's way, which is what David has even said about Rick, that "he lost his way for awhile." But then he came back, rejoined the band, supported David's solo tour, etc. David says "he can have the words right out of my mouth," giving Rick a chance to sing & play again, and even sing his own material. Rick was "allowed" to contribute more than ever.

I absolutely concur. The whole bit -
"Your manager and agent
Are both busy on the phone
Selling coloured photographs
To magazines back home"
I wish those lines weren't in there. They are awkward & don't fit or jibe with the rest of the lyrical imagery.

I don't think the brother dies...how can the brother be down about her "growing up for another man" if he's dead!?

You are absolutely correct on all counts. It's not boring, and the song is absolutely about a brother & sister. She grows up for another man, & he's sad he loses her affection.

ಠ_ಠ

That......makes absolutely NO sense. If that's what it means to you, great, but that certainly is nowhere near what Led Zeppelin were thinking when they wrote it.

The reason "wings of Thor" doesn't make any sense is because it's actually "the WINDS of Thor." Thor being the god of thunder & lightning.

OK, what are you talking about? In battle, knights ALL wore steel. That's what suits of armor were made out of! What do you think they wore?! Since they're talking about ancient Norse gods, I assume they meant, quite literally, they wore bright steel armor as they trudged to war.

I don't think they're on their way back from battle, I think they're still trying to get where they need to...they're in a dire situation & need to get through with a message. That's why they're so resolute to go on despite the misery & pain of no quarter.

"Quarter" is an old word for "mercy." No quarter = no mercy...they are asking for no mercy or sympathy. The term was often used in medieval times in reference to surrendering troops, who would "ask no quarter" after they surrendered, meaning they would take their punishment in full acceptance to retain their pride. It has absolutely nothing to do with the Donner party, who fell to starvation, exposure, disease, and stress/trauma. There was no one to surrender to, or ask no quarter to; they simply got disoriented & lost their way, which started even before they got hit with the big snow storm.

While they don't mention anyone specific in this song, I always envisioned Celtic or Norse people, trudging through heavy snow with single-minded determination to get a message through to perhaps a party engaged in battle somewhere. Maybe conquering new land, which would be the "dream for me and you." They are willing to suffer & face death to get through, thus they ask no quarter. The people waiting for them to return shut the door & turn off the light, knowing they've gone into dangerous territory "where no one goes." They might not ever return, but at least they never surrendered.

I hope that was meant to be sarcasm/humor. Otherwise, you're severely retarded.
