Kanye West – Wouldn't Leave Lyrics 6 years ago
Pretty obvious it's a love song about Kim. I can't pretend to know how their relationship works so well, but it does. And her loyalty through the constant drama on his side is represented here. They seem to have somewhat of a heart and head relationship where he acts purely on emotion, says what he wants to say without worrying about the consequences. But she's more level-headed, calculated, and can see everything 10 steps ahead. And that would explain his guilt and worry about acting emotionally and getting backlash for it which can affect her.

@[EatenbyWolves:13670] Sorry, I just misspoke. I meant he did not write these alone, like he did for FEFA.

Amber Run – Noah Lyrics 7 years ago
To me this song is about trying to escape your past and starting fresh.

There are two characters that the author applies to himself, that of Noah, and that of Judas. Both were basically only remembered for one thing, Noah for being the only righteous man on earth at the time, and Judas for betraying Christ. I think most people see themselves in this way, the good vs the bad. And most people try to escape the things they've done wrong at some point and start fresh. Like Noah, and the flood that sort of rebirthed the Earth, I think the writer is looking to leave behind a troubled past and start new. That might not mean living on the straight and narrow as it were. But it could also mean just dumping the baggage he carries with him.

I especially like the way he describes the sea as his home. I think it symbolizes that people aren't static beings. We change in innumerable ways and we shouldn't be defined by who we were at one point in time.

He ends the song with "So why don't we light a fire and leave the rest behind
Cause life's for living right" which I think is his call to action, that we burn what's dead of our pasts and should no longer be tied to us, and to also light a fire under us that motivates us to be the best versions of ourselves.

And finally, "Gotta get busy living or get busy dying. Oh and I'd hate to see you left behind." I would agree. If you're going to be so torn down and broken about the way you've been hurt in the past, or the way you've hurt others, then it clouds everything in the present, and you're not really living, you're just slowly dying. He chooses not to live that way, and if others don't heed his advice, they will be left behind.

Anyway, that's just my interpretation, probably way off. But I really enjoy the song.

The Goo Goo Dolls – Name Lyrics 9 years ago
I think "name" in this song, means baggage. To me, this song is about two kids who grew up in shitty homes and now, even in adulthood, they can't seem to escape their pasts. And the writer is pleading with the friend to stop living in the past.

"Even though the moment passed me by, I still can't turn away"
-Your life only moves forward, yet your only perspective is looking back. And even though whatever bad experience there was, he can't let it go.

"All the dreams you never thought you'd lose got tossed along the way"
-As a kid you think that once you get out, and you're an adult, all of your dreams will come true. But you quickly become jaded and somehow find yourself living in a crappy apartment, working a crappy job, and all alone.

"Letters that you never meant to send get lost and thrown away"
- To me, this line means the person never sent the letters, not that whoever received them threw them away. I think sometimes you have so much to say but never the courage to say it until eventually just lose touch and forget.

"Now we're grown up orphans that never knew their names
We don't belong to no one
That's a shame"
-They grew up without a real family, and even though they once had each other, they've lost touch for whatever reason, and are completely alone. No one else knows their story or understands like the one person they group up with. And the real shame, is the one person who knows you better than anyone, you don't talk to anymore. Most likely because every time you see their face or hear their voice you remember your childhood together and all of the bad outweighs the good.

"If you could hide inside me, maybe for awhile,
and I won't tell no one your name"
-The writer here is telling the other that they don't have to face the world alone. But when they're together, they don't have to live in the past either.

"Scars are souvenirs you never lose, the past is never far
And did you lose yourself way out there?
Did you get to be a star?"
-Parents who don't love you, don't care about you, are never there, or abuse you. They leave scars. And scars never go away. And here he's entertaining an almost delusional hope that maybe the other person was able to move on and still live a normal life that makes them happy.

"Don't it make you sad to know that life is more than who you are?"
-This is the most powerful line in the song to me. Your life is not about who you are as a person. It's about what has happened to you and what you've done. You're born this innocent baby with so many hopes and dreams and no one can escape how other people treat them when they're so fragile and impressionable. It defines you, regardless of who you really are.

"Grew up way too fast and now there's nothing to believe
Reruns all become our history
A tired song keeps playing on a tired radio, "
-They were forced to give up their dreams and see the reality of the world way too soon. And now they can't escape their troubled pasts.

"I think about you all the time, but I don't need the same
It's lonely where you are
And I won't tell 'em your name"
-He knows that they don't talk because the other person believes they'll have to face their past again if they do. But the writer is trying to communicate that living in the past is a lonely affair and he can help them to move on.

I would just like to note, as this has been bugging me a lot lately with people commenting on the album: Justin Vernon did not write any of these songs.

Bon Iver – The Wolves (Act I and II) Lyrics 12 years ago
To me this is definitely about a relationship gone sour. I think the song, as its title suggests, is broken into two parts. Difficult to tell, but the more I look at it, the more I think every verse goes back and forth. It seems like the woman was pretty terrible to the man. At first, the man says, Someday my pain, will mark you. I think it means that the woman may think she's fine now after the relationship, but someday in the future she'll realize how much she hurt someone who loved her and she'll have to carry that with her forever. I think the next part is possibly a response by the woman, telling him to stop blaming her and to just get over it.

The next part says, "with the wild wolves around you." I think it describes a person who has unexpectedly gotten in over their head. Probably describing the man who entered into a relationship with the best of intentions and expectations, but was suddenly surrounded by this woman who devoured him with no regard to him as a person. So I think the man responds, that after the relationship ends, he, in a serious sarcastic way, says he'll call her and tell her that she can just go ahead and do the same thing to someone else.

When he sings, "solace my game" I think it is the woman admitting that this sort of game she plays where she destroys mens' hearts brings her comfort, and at the moment, he's in the center of it. Then, this lyric is my favorite because of its power and terror, he sings, "swing wide your crane, swing wide your crane, and run me through." To me, the man is saying that if she's really going to destroy him, his heart, his soul, that she'd better just destroy it all. She should break him as hard as she possibly can (maybe so that she'll also destroy any love he ever had for her).

The next part I am not sure of. But it seems like the woman is saying that he is now enveloped in this situation and this relationship even though it has ended. And she's saying that she'll still try to call him in the morning and reconcile and repair the relationship, most likely so she can destroy it again soon. And the man responds with, "Can't you find a clue when your eyes are all painted Sinatra blue." Several people have said that Sinatra could refer to her naive view of love, but I think others are right when they say that the color of Frank Sinatra's eyes closely resemble the color eyes turn when they go blind. And I think he's telling the woman that he's not an idiot, and that she must be blind if she thinks he's not hurt enough to never return to her.

And I think the last words are spoken by the man. He believes that while he did love her, maybe even still, and wanted desperately to be with her, that none of it is worth it anymore. He realizes that a future with her is hell. So while he's hurt and maybe regrets parts of the relationship, he says whatever future life I might have just lost, it doesn't bother me.

Then the wonderful, emotional, angry bliss of music at the end I think well interprets the whole relationship. It's just an overwhelming of emotion and noise and you can't even think straight, you're just in the moment, listening to your soul scream.

Well, anyway that's just how I would interpret it.
