I feel like this song is about a man in love with a woman who is facing adversity of some kind. She's obviously very stressed out about it, and it's taking a toll in their relationship. She's got emotional baggage and he's totally understanding about it. He wants her to know that no matter what she goes through, he'll be there for her. He's trying to cheer her up, say that he knows she's got it bad, but she has him and it'll all be alright in the end. On a seperate note, I absolutely love this song. It's sweet and a real pick-me-up. |

| I just get a huge sense of desperation and strain from this song. This narrator is struggling with something, stuck between rationality and impulse. Whether it's right or wrong doesn't exactly matter, but why they're doing it does. The narrator is so desperate that he/she is willing to start a war or burn a town down to please whoever was wronged. | |

I honestly love it when bands go in different directions. Music in itself is like one big experiment, and you don't get anywhere without trying new things. We can't all be perfect all the time, so all those people bashing this song and the suckiness of this new album, shut the fuck up. You're ruining it for everyone. Is Mylo Xyloto Coldplay's best album? No. But it's an experiment. It's Coldplay trying something new, because if they stuck to that same stuff on Viva La Vida or X & Y, everyone would be tired and bored with the same things. That's what I love about Coldplay: their versatility when it comes to music. Viva La Vida sounded like a soundtrack to far off lands in a time long ago, and Mylo Xyloto is a peek into a future unknown. Change, whether you like it or not, isn't going to stop. Coldplay's next album will be, of course, different from this one. Don't bet on them staying the same, because they won't. tl;dr: haters gonna hate, but take the hate elsewhere because you're ruining the music. |

At first listen, I wasn't sure if I liked this new style of song. But then I thought and realized that bands change their sounds often, like how A Rush of Blood to the Head was different from X & Y, and how Viva La Vida was different from them. I, personally, love to see bands change their sounds, because it would be boring if they sounded the same in EVERY album. "This isn't the Coldplay I know and love!" No, it's not. It's a changing Coldplay, and whether you like it or not, change will happen. As for the song, I love it. I has that powerful, steady beat, and a surprisingly catchy tune that gets stuck in your head. The lyrics, to me, are celebrating emotion, and the beauty of all things humans feel, good and bad. It also shows the beauty in the bad, and how opitisim is important. |

I love how this songs sounds. Martin's voice seems to kind of drown in the music, as if he's standing right in the middle of it and singing out. The sounds swell around his voice and sort of echo. Love it. I’m probably wrong about this, but this is what came to my mind while listening to this. As for the lyrics, now that I read through them, it seems the person in this song is being watched by some powerful source - "they/them". It could be some governmental power/higher power/etc. ("They got one eye watching you/One eye on what you do") The person, however, acknowledges this and wants to fight back against whatever is watching him. ("So be careful what it is you're trying to do/And be careful when you're walking into view")We can assume that whatever it is watching him isn't pleasant. ("So be careful cause nothing they say is true.")He's very against whatever "they" are and tries to convince others to rise up against whatever "they" is.(“No, no don't believe a word/It's just us against the world/And we just got to turn up to be heard.") In the end, "they" come for him ("You could hear them climbing the stairs") and while he wants to fight back, he's still afraid of what "they" will do/are capable of. ("I Got my right side fighting/While my left hides under the chairs.") The lyric with the crocodiles (“Hear the crocodiles ticking round the world/Hear those crocodiles ticking, they go ticking round the world.”) reminds me of Peter Pan, for some reason. Captain Hook is deathly afraid of the crocodile that swallowed the alarm clock. The way I see it, the crocodiles could either be the things that comes for the man at the end of the song that he ends up fighting. Or they could be the small voices of rebellion that arise in the world due to the man’s efforts. (“they go ticking round the world”) Overall, this songs reminds me of those dystopian novels- like 1984. A big, all powerful government watching its citizens and everything they do. It’s a creepy thought, but it doesn’t make me love this song any less. |

I really do love this song and album in general. But the part that really gets me is the part where he sings "Oh sometimes love's intoxicating Oh you're coming down your hands are shaking When you realise there's no one waiting" Because that moment when you realize that you've truly lost the person you love is the most painful. Whatever he had with his ex is ended, and that one moment when he realizes it is terrifying. |
