James Blake – Retrograde Lyrics

No, it clearly says "Darkness of the dawn" but I think he's talking of the darkness that comes before the dawn. |

I think it says:
"Suddenly I'm hit
Is this darkness before the dawn?"
It would make sense this way - on the other hand I'm trying hard to figure out the overall meaning of the song. Who is he talking to? What is he trying to say? How do the words tie in with the title Retrograde?
Retrograde means to go back in position or time. To regress, retreat, go backward... iT COULD BE that he's waiting for her to go back, come back, to the girl he knew before, the way she used to be. For her to find her place again, where she felt like she fit in. And he'll be there for her, no matter what she puts him through ("suddendly I'm hit"), thinking it's just one more thing before she goes back to what he knew her to be ("is this the darkness before the dawn?). |

in her mind she talks to God, calls out to him for her lover and says, "he won't love me like that" (in other words: like you, God or like I love him)
sad, but oh so common. |

Hi wgs2102,
I'll try to calm down with the u's. Lazy force of habit i guess.
Thank you for the comment and opportunity to see the song interpr. from your perspective. I like your perspective actually much better. It's hopeful and a lot more positive.
Makes me feel better. :) |

I feel like it's more that her love is not allowed. He loves her and she loves him, but for some reason they can't be together. It might be an affair. |

I love these lyrics. They speak so much to me right now. They perfectly describe my situation with a certain someone who to my is a rare rare find. I hope that....
Ah, I'll just 'leave the ways as they are'. I know 'one day our ocean will find its shore'. |

Great interpretation! The cycle hits us in reality more often than we'd like, but such is life, unfortunately...or people i should say. :)

Pretending that you're not missing someone who's no longer around.
Pretending it didn't hurt you when they left.
Pretending like they are still around. |

Monsters of Folk – Slow Down Jo Lyrics

I've made mistakes, pissed off my friends and ran off. I should've slowed down.
I hope the one I really care for is well and happy.
And maybe thinks of me from time to time....like I think of him. Constantly.
I heart you. |

I agree with the emotional addiction. You fall in love with the feeling weed gives you, and you miss it when its gone. Same when you fall in love with people, but people leave. Weed is a friend that stays forever! |

Tom Waits – Bad as Me Lyrics

It feels like this is a song about someone who's always on your mind and you just can't get them out of your head no matter what you try to do. They seem to be at the core of everything you do ('the head on the spear'), the reason why you drink ('the fly in my beer') and that's probably because they got away ('the key that got lost'), they're love that u lost. But the song also tells that this person is just like u, a mirror image, they're just as bad as you and if u were in their shoes u'd do everything just the same way. So even though u love em, u love because they remind u of urself, and even though u'd one day get a chance to be with them u'd most likely run just the same (the second part of the song tells this the most, when he turns to speak about himself 'I'm the one with the gun, Most likely to run, I'm the car in the weeds, If you cut me I'll bleed). Two people in love with eachother, but most likely just in love with their own selves...and running in circles.
Good song.
