No, not every song they wrote was about drugs... but this one was MOST CERTAINLY about LSD. And exactly, they didn't want the world to think they were just writing drug reference songs. That's why it's masterfully hidden-- only someone who's listened to this song on acid can detect John's sly hints. Acid heads just think they're so clever and prolific. I can see John now tripping laughing uncontrollably about how much of a genius he was. Not to mention he is precisely describing the feelings you have on LSD: Overwhelming love and happiness, and the urge to want to share the feeling with everyone (spreading "the word"). This to me is one of the few Beatles songs I can say is absoLUTELY about LSD. |
