Bob Dylan – Visions of Johanna Lyrics 12 years ago
i love this song as well. It is more of a rhyming novel, though. It's long and full of imagery. "the ghost of 'lectricity howls on the bones of your face". Beautiful and genius. Great song. No idea what its about other that it must be about god because Johanna is a name for god.

Thank you so much man. This song is totally about Vietnam. I mean, obviously the snake is satan and about how all the people road him and killed and sinned and shit plus it is used in motherfucking Apocalypse Now which was about fucking Vietnam.

The Doors – The End Lyrics 12 years ago
I have never thought about it as a love song or the Oedipus story or the Whiskey thing. I always though that it was about Vietnam and how the war was so bad that it was like the end of the world or something. This is a very dark song, though and probably has multiple meanings.

Bob Dylan – Jokerman Lyrics 13 years ago
ok, so i understand very little of dylan's works, but think that many of them are about multiple things (except masters of war, which is well written but a very direct and simple protest song). Jokerman could be about anything from Jesus, the devil, or the civil rights movement and possibly the genocidal rage on the jews from WWII. Because of the line "nighsticks and watercannons teargas padlocks, molotav cocktails and rocks, behind every curtain", i am pointed toward WWII or Civil Rights. Yet "Resting in the fields, far from the turbulent space," may refer to Jesus. Enjoy these thoughts.

Bob Dylan – Ballad of a Thin Man Lyrics 13 years ago
I view this song even differently from the rest of you. I think that it is maybe about the average American (think, Jones is a common name for an american man) and how change is surrounding his life and his country (though i understand very little of the lyrics in this song as they all sound like something a psychopath would sing, this is just a thought to get around in the forum)

Bob Dylan – Desolation Row Lyrics 13 years ago
hmm. nice way to think of this. But what about the skinny girls mentioned by phantom, or Ophelia. I think that some of these refer to a prostitution home, as mentioned in an earlier replies. just think about it. I'm going to go comment on Ballad of a Thin Man now. wish me luck.

Bob Dylan – Desolation Row Lyrics 13 years ago
well, i have no idea what this song is about, but i have a possible answer as to what it is about. It may be about a prostitution home, or at least partially. "By her 22nd birthday, she already is an old maid" is one reference to this. It also culd be about depression or the holocaust or maybe all of this. What goes on in the head of Bob Dylan is something that no one will ever understand, sometimes not even Dylan himself will understand.

Neil Young – My My, Hey Hey (Out Of The Blue) Lyrics 13 years ago
i agree, after hearing this song i knew it waz about elvis. I mean, just think:
Rock and Roll is here to stay
Rock and Roll can never die
The king is gone but is not forgotten

All are talking about elvis. He began the undying age of rock n' roll and Neil Young is saying that even though Elvis is dead, no one will ever forget how he started rock n roll
