Iron & Wine – Boy with a Coin Lyrics 12 years ago
I'm wondering if in the second verse, the line "IF God made her eyes .." is supposed to be "THAT God made her eyes.."

It may not seem to be a big deal but I believe that such a simple change/correction, definitely reinforces the idea that the little girl has been raped.

She feels God has forsaken her, since (as she probably views it) God allowed her to be raped, to her this must mean THAT God made her eyes for crying.

Damien Rice – Lonelily Lyrics 13 years ago
To me, this song has a different meaning.

He knows what they had is over, and knows she is going to leave but did not want her to go because he still loves her ("I was sure I wouldn't find you at home/and you let me down"). It was exactly how he expected it would be, but that's not how he wanted it to be, so he is feeling let down.

He did not explore other partners in the 2nd verse as she did. The "someone" he was looking to hold was her and she wasn't there so he lost all he believed in (their love).

He gives her the benefit of the doubt by making excuses for her "you could've called if you needed" "you got yourself locked in"

Throughout the song so far, he has insisted she is coming back, but its now that we get our first clue what is really going on. While he is trying to forgive and forget (in preparation of taking her back) we see that he is fooling himself. She hasn't called and isn't returning.

He desperately wants her to return to him because "neither of us wanna be alone", but he fails to accept that she isn't alone, only he is because he cannot move on.

It's the classic case of one person moving on from a relationship while the other cannot accept that it is over and has convinced themselves that their love will be returning to them eventually.

She "took [the new person] all the way through [her] bed", she has fallen in love with someone else. He's alone, she moved on.
