Britain is THE " American satellite" . Being Irish , Im reluctant to say it but its obvious . I mean they have the Union Jack on their cover . Britain has been invaded , attacked , besieged , encircled , bombed ,(and bombed again by the IRA) but continued conquering . Or continued on through it all . Couldve been written about Ireland . He usually brings out the Uniomn Jack when playing this song , but brought out the Tricolor in Ireland . Its about a girl too for whoever wants it to be about a girl . " chimes sing sunday morn " a herald of RESSURECTION . easter sunday / new beginning "todays the day to steal what she could never own ".....I think means ,SIMPLY means to TAKE BACK her LIFE , something she didnt OWN until she was RESURRECTED . ( and to leave ) and the rest is simply describing this NEW DEPARTURE / ressurection / liberation / freedom / ENLIGHTENMENT........."see the steeple pines / hills as old as timne " is almost like a ZEN phrase. "seeing" rather than LOOK AT .....direct EXPERIENCE , rather than Discriminative thought . ACID (and mushrooms) have been known for thousands of years to be capable of bringing about an ENLIGHTENMENT or transcendence . Where you see reality with FRESH EYES ("lifting the lids of your eyes" / tell me how it feels" / "so good to have equalised" / REAL-ised. "stands on shifting sands " ........the ZEN truth of ever-changing reality. " fills her brigantine sails" .....the winds // nature , which PREVIOUSLY BEFORE LIBERATION would have STUNG her , NOW propel her forward and fill her with life . Same could be said about the subject being BRITAIN itself . Poetry often has several layers of meaning . Reading Into poetry TOO MUCH destroys its effect . So BRIGANTINE , simply means BRITISH . I think your delving TOO DEEP here . "the steeple pines" are simply pine trees . its simply references to LIBERATION , both of Britain and the "girl" / the "she", and the MIND in general . " Now your at the wheel , tell me how does it feel " is much the same as DYLANS " now that your at the top , tell me where your at " ......(like a rolling stone , cant remember the exact phrase , but much the same )....Now that your free liberated , in control , how does it feel ? |

16 years crusading ( i meant). if anyone knows the history of original christianity and jesuss relation to magdalene , prory of sion etc and the johanite churches , you can see a relation although with a stretch of the imagination . not talking about da vinci code crap , but the order of sion were a genuine order , the johannite churches and southern french heretics / cathars , templars and freemasons kept the original christianity alive . ( thats why they were heretics ) the grand master of the order de notre dame de sion was called the nautonnier ( captain , navigator ). the 16 years , was dylans time spend so far " crusading " ( 16 banners ) at the place where the good shepherd (jesus ) grieves ( contemplation /enlightenment / philosophy ). Dylan refers to mary magdalene in more than one song . and sarah (dylans wife ) was mary magdalene daughter by jesus. btw. sarah dylan is supposedly the most serenaded woman in history after helen of troy due to his songs. if you dont know anything about original christianity and the mystery philosopies, and the idea that magdalene was jesuss "consort" then this will be rubbish to you. if you are familiar with it , it comes together a lot more , such as rolling rock....jesus tomb (symbolic tomb, ritual of death +rebirth , which happened to all the mystery god/men and any initiates, even now in freemasonry ). did i mention in last reply that magdal means tower in hebrew . magdaleder = tower of the flock or watchtower of the flock. BUT either way dylan was influenced by rimbaud and baudelaire...as far as i remember ,they were known for the poetic sound and rhythym of their works more than the actual meaning . So ,even though no one knows what the lyrics mean , they are still high poetry, the words are just pregnant with meaning , ANY meaning. So, to know what the lyrics really refer to destroys their magic , thats why dylan always refused to explain lyrics. |
