Vampire Weekend – White Sky Lyrics 10 years ago
I think you're spot on there. Especially when you consider the lines

"A pair of mirrors that
Are facing one another
Out in both directions
A thousand little Julias
That come together"

They're having sex in a change room, and the last bit about the wolfords is them pretending to look at the buidings, and ask all the right questions, while really just imagining how her pantyhose would look balled up in one of the building's bathroom sinks

The Killers – Miss Atomic Bomb Lyrics 11 years ago
I interpreted it as him just telling her that she should have appreciated him more before she went and cheated on him. Him being gone is just him breaking up with her and the sorrow that she would feel. just my interpretation though :)

The Killers – Miss Atomic Bomb Lyrics 11 years ago
oops, i wrote "passage right" instead of rite. awkward haha
and to AHLondon, I think that part of the song is him looking back on that moment that he found that sh had cheated on him.
Brandon said somewhere, I don't have a source, that one night he had a feeling she was cheating on him, so he went to a particular bar and saw that she was with another man.
I think the standing there with sweat on his skin is just him running into the bar and getting worked up when he saw them together. He was standing there just staring at them, sweating from the stress and anxiety that he would have felt.

Also, I definitely hear "and you're too late." Makes me think that she pleads with him to give her another shot, but after what she's done she has no chance with Flowers anymore.

As for the "shockwave whisper," I always had the idea that maybe it was her speaking to him on the phone one night when she was with the other man, and she could only whisper to Flowers over the phone because she didn't want the other man to hear. That when she whispered, it was obvious she wasn't alone, and that this was Miss Atomic Bomb's shockwave blast- the moment he realised that she was probably cheating with him, sealing her fate.

Sorry if this is incoherent- I'm tired haha.

Brandon has said that ever since he's become confident with his body he feels that he doesn't care about what he's wearing.
''Getting more comfortable in my own skin and feeling more confident is somehow tasking the place of feathers and Pink leather."

Joe Strummer and the Mescaleros – Ramshackle Day Parade Lyrics 11 years ago
I think this song is about how the world has always been corrupted and full of hatred and wars, but that we need to keep the hope for a better tomorrow.

Joe can't say when things went wrong, or who's to blame "Was it all the amphetamine presidents and their busy wives; or did Manhattan crumble the day Marlyn died?"

In the last verse he speaks of the firemen who went into the world trade centre, into the fire. "Takin' the freight elevator to the incinerator. The hopped up G-men riding..." and seeing that this tragedy is like all the tragedies before it. They see the "Faces of the civil wars" in these people, "and holograms holding 44's"- the ghosts of the soldiers can be seen by them. In the end he sarcastically says to bring out the banners of Stalingrad and celebrate with a marching band, of the underhand.

The second verse, I believe, is Joe explaining how people avoid the problems - the wars, and famine and hatred- by escaping into a paradise and dreaming of something better. We don't do this because we are ignorant, or blind to the injustices, but because we need a little time to escape in order to get through life, and to feel like we matter, "every dog must have his day."

We need to celebrate life, and everyone who has ever lived- "Of all those lost, unborn, and unmade"- with a parade, even if it is a ramshackle day parade, just so that we can get though things. "We're going on through."

The Killers – Be Still Lyrics 11 years ago
I think that this song is meant to be one of Brandon's mother's words to him when he was young.

Flowers was born in Vegas, then they moved to Utah, and after some begging, Flowers was allowed to leave his family and move back to Vegas when he was in high school.

I think that song is about her telling him to keep his innocence ("Long may your innocence reign") and keep his faith when he is conflicted with the temptations of Vegas. ("If you ever feel you can't take it anymore, don't break character, you've got a lot of heart")

I think that the "be still" is her advising him to pray to God when things get tough. (Brandon has said that it was his mother who taught him how to pray- which is why I think that this song is from his mother's perspective, not his father's)

Overall though, she is telling him to be strong and succeed at life
"And may your limits be unknown, and may your efforts be your own"
"Soon enough you'll be on your own"

The Killers – Heart of a Girl Lyrics 11 years ago
The story of how Brandon met his wife, Tana.

I think it's just about how he appreciates that his wife has stuck by him through everything. It starts with their meeting and skips through the years. He's "see[n] the time drippin' down the clock" and "[she's] still here" and she'll continue to sick by him "Standing on stone, you stand beside me and honour the plans that were made."

In terms of the actual music though, I just have to say wow. Such a beautiful song! Lanois did it again. I love the sampling/alteration of Lou Reed's 'Walk on the Wild Side' -Mark is great- and the way in which Brandon speak-sings the first couple of verses (especially the "and she said" and "and I said to her."

The Killers – A Matter of Time Lyrics 11 years ago
So, the album Battle Born seems to tell the story of a young Flowers meeting his first love, having this relationship crumble, and meeting the love of his life, Tana.
This song follows 3 songs about this struggling relationship (Runaways, The Way It Was and Here With Me) and finally it ends in this song.

I really love the lyrical connections in this album- all the songs link to each other not just in their basic ideas, but the use of the same phrases lets us know that these are the two same people.
e.g. "fallin' back on forever" and "Laughing with your girlfriends" link this to Miss Atomic Bomb (which is also linked to Mr. Brightside through him referring to himself as having had "eager eyes" - not to mention the integration of the brightside riff)
and "You got me drivin' through the streets for an answer to the mystery" links this to 'The Way It Was' ("I drove through the desert last night, I carried the weight of our last fight... it's like we're going under")

Pretty basic- just a song about how much he loves his wife by saying that she's literally the best at everything and defies science (e.g. working a 268 hour week)

I absolutely love this song! it's hilariously tongue-in-cheek and adorable.

The Killers – Miss Atomic Bomb Lyrics 11 years ago
Definitely tied to Mr. Brightside- Brandon even said so himself. It also seems to be tied to the new song, 'A Matter of Time.'

This song shows an older Flowers reflecting on the events of Mr. Brightside, giving the girl who cheated on him the name 'Miss Atomic Bomb,' referring to the impact that her cheating had on him.

The first stanza says "standing with your girlfriends in the street, Fallin' back on forever"- lyrics taken from A Matter of Time. He then says "I wonder what you came to be," showing that he's reflecting on this from some time after. He was "the boy with the eager eyes," showing that this is Mr. Brightside himself.

The song chronicles the innocence that they once had, Flowers losing his virginity to this girl in the backseat of his car, "The leather seats, the passage right
I feel the heat, I see the light," to their demise, when she cheated on him.

The screaming in the background seems to symbolise this loss of innocence when he finds out what she's done. The relationship ends with Flowers saying it felt "just like a dagger buried deep in your back" and that her "soul was innocent, she kissed him and she painted it black."

It cuts back to the present time, after the "dust cloud [from the Atomic Bomb] has settled [and his] eyes are clear," only to show that he still thinks about her (obvious if you've listened to his many songs seemingly about the same girl) with the line "sometimes in dreams of impact i still hear"

Haha, I can't listen to this song often, but I have a strange love for it. Of course the title is referring to them using the music from Mag 7 and having lightning strike a second time with it.

Hahahaha really? The band didn't even have anything to do with the video, and even if they did, the song doesn't have to match the video; that's like saying that the lyrics to 'All These Things That I've Done' are about a cowboy being murdered by the girl he cheated on.

The Killers – Read My Mind Lyrics 12 years ago
Not sure if you'll even get a notification for this, but you're the only person I've seen who really got the same interpretation that i got. Flowers' parents gave him the opportunity to leave a small town in Utah to Vegas by himself when he was a teenager. I think this song is about his struggle deciding whether he wanted to leave or not.

He lists these images in a kind of stream of consciousness; they are just a bunch of small images that make up what his town is to him- what his life has been about so far. He desperately wants to leave for a bigger and better town (as described in "This River Is Wild" and "Playing with Fire") but can't seem to work out what is holding him back. I think he is asking his girlfriend to realise this as he is too confused to work it out for himself. By reading his mind, she will be able to make sense of these images' meaning, and give him the strength to take that leap and use the trampoline to get over the city wall with her.

The line "the stars are blazing like rebel diamonds cut out of the sun" perfectly sums up the song. The two of them are like the rebel diamonds cut out of the sun- two people who left a loving town that find a way to shine by themselves in a greater town.

Lolyta is on her first album "Lana Del Ray a.k.a. Lizzy Grant," whereas on Born To Die Deluxe Version, it's spelt Lolita. Lolyta also has a different intro.
And yes, I know I wrote Del Ray, that's how it's spelt on that album.

I definitely think you're right about the meaning, as for your questions... I'd say that they will definitely go on tour, though it might not be as extensive due to some of the band members seemingly not enjoying the touring as much.

Also, Battle Born is the name of the Killers' recording studio, the name coming from the fact that Nevada is known as the Battle Born state, having been born out of the American Civil War. The name could maybe also be a subtle reference to all of the criticisms that the band has gotten, and how this album was born out of that :)

The Killers – Glamorous Indie Rock and Roll Lyrics 12 years ago
I never had the idea that this song portrayed Brandon's general feelings, I always thought he was paying out the indie mentality with this song.

To clear it up, a quote from Brandon Flowers:

"The song is very misunderstood, especially in America. I hear people think we're trying to be indie… Not a moment in my life has been spent trying to be indie. It's embarrassing when you think about it that way. I feel I need to put a memo out: Look at the lyrics! It's ironic!"
