I don't know what the singer intended this song to mean but to me this song is about a guy who founds himself in a psudo relationship with a woman who apparently can't be in a relationship with him for some reason (maybe a recent breakup?) and this frustrates him. He tells her he can be the one to take away the pain from her but she still doesn't feel like it is right to be in a relationship with him. This only worsens as he isn't really sure what she feels for him and he wants her to tell him but she doesn't and this frustrates him.
Why am I saying all this? I found myself in exactly the same situation and believe me after every time I am with this woman, I always tell myself "It's the last time I'll do this."

I agree. When I first heard the album I was a little disappointed(still am in all honesty) but that was before I delved into the meaning of this song and Fix me. I think the record label forced them to make an album full of radio friendly hits which they did but while doing so they asked themselves "why can't we piss them off while doing so?" Very, very clever. The fact that they left the record label to form their own independent label after this record just goes further to raise my suspicions. I hope they go back to writing subtle and beautiful songs in their next album because to be honest they don't have the excuse of being forced to do otherwise any more. Still one of my favourite bands. |

My, my I haven't read all the comments but what I have read cannot be any more far off the mark. The song is about someone who has managed to kick a habit through rehab but has developed a holier than thou attitude which is now starting to screw him over. The halo on his head is now turning into a noose, there is no actual noose. The song makes zero attacks on religion whatsoever. |

The song is about losing yourself to please others but they are never satisfied or pleased with you so you keep on losing yourself a little more. That is what I take it to mean but I do know there is a bit of a backstory with the record about the band and the record label. |

The song is about a relationship that did not quite take off because the guy was afraid to express himself to the girl so he held back. The girl might have gotten tired of waiting and so she took off but now the guy wants her back. I know this because the same thing is happening to me at the moment and every line is very relevant. |

As I have said in all the meanings of La Dispute songs in this site the whole album tells of a story. The story of a broken marriage. In this song he is beating the crap out his fears which have been controlling him. The past left him scarred and he has always held on to it and he keeps worrying about the future which makes him unable to live in the present. He is learning to live in the present and have a more positive outlook on life as in the past he has always seen the dark side of things instead of the bright side.
This song is an inspiration to me every single day!! |

This song, this album, this band is just sick. The best band that I have discovered this year!!! The album is about the guy being afraid that his wife will be taken from him by another man like his previous wife was (the previous wife part is seen in Damaged goods) and it turns out being true as his fear pushes his wife away and she ends up leaving him. Moral: Don't let your fear your god.

This song is exactly what I am going through right now with the girl am in love with. We are totally different(live different lives) but we are still in love with each other. We have been going round that face for some time now (dodging lights like thieves in the night) but right now I feel we can't escape that fact because the truth has lately hit me on the face(the sun has risen and exposed all our lies) and I feel that I need to break up with her. Who knows maybe one day we will meet and we all will fall into place.
