Sonic Youth – Peace Attack Lyrics 8 years ago
This is the name of my own band. We sound nothing like Sonic Youth, though. To me it's just a phrase about the contrast between two extremes. Either way it's a nice song.

Pavement – Spit On A Stranger Lyrics 9 years ago
To me this is about having the first thought about beginning a relationship - whether it is a friendship or romantic relationship - with someone. There are people we are around everyday but don't take the moment to acknowledge our perceptions of each other. This song is about that moment.

Everyone we will meet in our lives was a stranger to us at some point. We pass strangers on the street and disregard them, we drive by strangers in traffic, we often observe others lives' or criticize them from a distance. When he says "I could spit on a stranger/you're a bitter stranger" he's referencing that perspective - most strangers we will pass by in life and never think twice about. But then there's the conflicting emotion - "pour me out." Every now and then someone will make their way into our lives unexpectedly and we pour out our emotions to them. We let them in. We allow them to know us. This song is about the beautiful possibility of taking a moment in your life to consider if a stranger has become someone worthwhile to you.

Rogue Wave – Lake Michigan Lyrics 12 years ago
To me, this song seems to be about knowing someone who is very narrow-minded or argumentive about things - "Heaven is a switchboard that you want to fight" "Power politician leaning to the right" "She'll want to go off like that..."

"Get off my stack" could mean 'leave me alone,' and 'leave a little window' is asking that person to be a little more open-minded.

The reference to Lake Michigan is the part that's fuzzy. To me it sounds like the two people in the song work together - 'stack' referring to stacks of money ("not another payoff") or papers on a desk or something - so perhaps Lake Michigan is an escape from the everyday boredom of the work-world... I mean, the part that says 'Lake Michigan' slows down and is the calm point of the song. In my interpretation, both people in the song - however different - are able to picture the serenity of Lake Michigan as a place to be alone with their own thoughts, opinions, state of mind.. "No one is on Lake Michigan."

So basically I think the song is about embracing your own opinions while at the same time trying to be more open-minded.

But in reading other comments, I kind of like the environmental interpretations better than mine-
