First Aid Kit – Hard Believer Lyrics 11 years ago
It's just about an atheist/agnostic relating with life - people who are religious and preachy want to say that atheists can't enjoy/love life and this song is showing quite rightly that everyone can. This is just about life

Tally Hall – Spring and a Storm Lyrics 12 years ago
Well, I think most of your interpreation is alright, but I think the part where he sings "All you see and you and me, became from a star" is not about how we owe earth's life to the sun, but about the fact that our entire galaxy was created because of a red giant or the fact that all of the atoms in our bodies are traceable to stars from billions of years ago all across the universe.

Tally Hall – Spring and a Storm Lyrics 12 years ago
I think this is about life, and the sort of sweet existential outlook on it. It basically says, our life is going to have a lot of bad scary things (storm) but a lot of beautiful things as well (the spring). I feel like the first while people are trying to dismiss this sort of outlook, and he tries to get them to stop complaining by making them realize that if we don't need both we can't have only one.

All you see and you and me
Became from a star

This actually means how we are all made out of the same energy as stars. Niel Degrasse Tyson put it best, "The atoms of our bodies are traceable to stars that manufactured them in their cores and exploded these enriched ingredients across our galaxy, billions of years ago. For this reason, we are biologically connected to every other living thing in the world. We are chemically connected to all molecules on Earth. And we are atomically connected to all atoms in the universe. We are not figuratively, but literally stardust.”

It's sort of a sweetness in this song that says you don't need religion to feel connected (I have no idea about Tally Hall's religious orientation, I personally am athiest). This trace backs to the line about the sky, 'many people think thats where we go when we die' 'i think we go to obscure or wherever we were before we were'.

This song is about the fact that the world can be harsh but it can be beautiful as well, and what makes this song wonderful is Tally Hall is saying, "Look what I'm doing! I'm writing this wonderful, childish song, I'm so happy despite it all!"

At least that's what I think.

Passion Pit – Take a Walk Lyrics 12 years ago
Kieranr has the correct version, I looked at theirs.

They are taking a walk because that's what people do when things are tough at home, or if they're feeling particularily bad. It gives time to reflect and calm down. Or, by walking you escape the situation, walk away from it.

Such a sad song.

Dan Mangan – Some People Lyrics 12 years ago
It's about the weird society America has that rubs off in Canada (it 'love interest' not love and trust like the person above said :) ). But mostly it's about religious fanatics, and how they don't question or think about what they've been told, they only blindly believe and use it as justification to do terrible things to other people.
This song is just so darkly beautiful, love it.

Jets Overhead – Heading for Nowhere Lyrics 12 years ago
I always thought it was 'this is our connection/asking for the time' and thought it was a very beautiful line. Bit dissapointing that it isn't, but I still like the song.

Oingo Boingo – Insanity Lyrics 12 years ago
Hmm, it would make a lot of sense as an attack on Christianity and the Christian ideals especially with the chorus singers (it may even hit onto the Church-Molestation issue with the last verse and since the children are singing). This song makes me feel depressed until the Dan Quayle part lol

Geographer – Kites Lyrics 12 years ago
It's about the way love can change. The europhia, love, then anger and hate. The narrator gets married and has kids, they move on. When he says "I was a brother when I saw you" says how all the feelings have chastened to a point that its simply love. It makes sense with the song title - kite. The kite can fly very high but it eventually falls to the ground again :)

Personally I love all of the interpretations. It could be lovers, or a boy and his girlfriend that cheated on him with his brother, or what the band says it is (about death of family members). I love all of them, mine especially lol, and this song is absolutely gorgeous. Love it love it love it.

We Were Promised Jetpacks – This Is My House, This Is My Home Lyrics 12 years ago
A reason why I love this song so much is that I see it as a protagonist in a horror movie that knows that something terrible has happened/is happening in the attic of their house, and they don't want to go up there but they know they have to.
Actually, it doesn't even have to be a horror movie, any horror (war, abuse, kidnap so on) in life could fit this interpretation perfectly. "Oh no you found me,
Oh no you found me, here" fits the sort of 'little kid hiding from the bad man' sort of idea I have. 'This is my house this is my home' shows how horrors can happen anywhere, even in the place you've grown and love.
Coupled with how tender the song is I love this interpretation. It's such a lovely contrast.

The Shins – Australia Lyrics 12 years ago
Strange as it is, it's about the meaning of life :)
'Born to multiply' (to procreate and pass on genes) 'Born to gaze into night skies' (to appreciate beauty) 'All we wants is one more saturday' We just live to find the next happiness.
Dodo's can't fly and androids can't cry but the feeling is real, and that feeling is happiness that we constrain ourselves. Longingly looking at the world with elbows perched on the windowpanes, and he ends the song with offering a hand to jump out the window. It's about breaking out of the box that constrains us and just being happy
Why it was called Australia . . . well, I think I'll go there and find out eventually :D

Linkin Park – Shadow Of The Day Lyrics 13 years ago
I'm fairly certain its about a person who is either a) been a car accident and is paralyzed or in a comab) tried to commit suicide but failed. It's a calming song about death and how its sometimes to just let go than stay
