I find that it's really a song about general inner struggle that can be applied to anything. I like the idea that it could be about religion but I have been singing these lyrics along with the recording and it all sounds right to me. Such an underrated song. I think it's beautiful, has a great message, and should be heard by many more people. |

It reminds me a lot of that period of thinking when you go back in your mind to discover everything that happened to you as a child that made you who you are today. Because you were born, you exist, and this is such a frightening concept to so many people that they use drugs to calm themselves away from it. The chorus is then more or less a reassurance. You can use that piece of knowledge to destroy yourself and become frightened of your life permanently, or you can take what you need from it. "A family of trees wanting to be haunted" simply seems like a poetic image to me. It doesn't need to bear resemblance to anything literal. It could simply be the idea of getting high in the woods or a meditation (the image being the serene nature of trees.) Hope that helps. |
