Ellie Goulding – This Love (Will Be Your Downfall) Lyrics 3 years ago
This is a wonderful, unique song because of the depth it conveys.
I understand that there are different opinions but I was truly disappointed that this site has no comments that really explain the song. I dunno if I am full right but for me it is quite clear AND NOT JUST THAT - this song is wise, saying very much about love.

It is about our delusions when we start liking someone. Not about true feelings, but about "rather trivial emotions" that we for some time believe are really true because at first the crush really is strong. But there is some very subtle difference. Of course, a short love story has its small charm and has the right to be but true deep feelings are really the ones we should find.

The lyrics show this really. And it sounds true. We think we love and we take these feelings very seriously, pour our soul into them, and then... something changes, things are not as they seemed. We all want to be happy and not alone and we draw an imaginary picture of a deep relationship with the person we don't even know that much.

And the real great feeling perhaps, can be found with someone who is not our "type" so much and is a bit more difficult. This inner intuition must help us to find the best choice. At least, as long as I don't lose my faith in love, i hope i'll find him or create deeper feelings with the person I already have and value

@[Frission:17886] that's bit cruel and frank a criticism but yet humane and also maybe very true. Thank You. I am still strangely fascinated by all this story and this is great you (and some others) analyse so well and seriously. The other comment deals more with her inner nature and you spoke more about her creative attitude. And that's even more important. For music issues
But somehow most of all I still want them to be together (it unlikely wil ever be) and thta's none of my business naturally) but even so

@[rebeccast:17885] Respect - sincerely! A really great understanding of the deeper meaning of the song, and perhaps very true, though for a person in love if Taylor was at the time of this song it might have hurt a lot if she understood. But John IS talented and not a stupid man at all to me

You mean all the song's about is to say 'listen to me, i'm a song'? why would then it say: now you know you are wrong coz it's been there playing all long. Wrong about what? And that will be too self-praising:) And doesn't suit other lines.
I think this idea of yours doesn't work, the explanation won't tally with the other lines. Maybe you've just been listening to a bit of the song )

For me this song is somehow associated with the state of being a bit in love. Dunno why. But it inspires me to imagine some kind of scene with myself and another person, where we know there's this sort of interest between us but we don't express it openly and these reserved ways seem romantic to both of us. And probably it is winter outside.
Well, it is not interpretation of the song of course, its lyrics are quite simple, but that's my own impressions from the song, just wanted to express them.

That's an amazing analysis of the song:) Making choices is really really hard and I think there'll always be doubt whether you've made the right one or not whatever...

That's the only bit I don't quite agree to. I think a person may want to be miserable in life or at some period of it. Anyway suffering teaches us lessons. And it seems like society says that everyone IS OBLIGED to be happy, hence all these books of the type How to become happy, how to make your child happy and so on.
Thus being happy becomes kind of obligatory and that you cannot think of yourself as normal if you do not want to be happy. I think that happy people are supposed to be more acceptable for the society and that's why such attitude prevails.
But such attitude lacks to my mind some deeper idea - that every person ought to be himself, learn what lessons HE ought to learn in life and make HIS mistakes, that's basically what you say yourself.
Hmm.. Dunno if I got that right but just needed to express my point.
