Given that our dear Anna always expresses honestly with no covering up her thoughts, it seems that she has found a new friend, who happens(?) to be a murderer... Or better, the fact that he is a murderer gives him the right to be her friend. Anna feels safe around him, 'cause "men are the only species that he kills" and she considers herself probably not even human. Well, at least not a man.
With the line "but he's the most human friend that I ever had" she probably wants to say that he is not entirely human. However, it could also mean that the most "human" being is the one who actually kills other human beings based on the oxymoron yet true fact that human nature can often (Anna would say "always") be "inhuman" and cruel.
Although you would probably like him to kill even your fans, Anna-Varney Cantodea, we love you and thank you for your art:) :P |

I totally agree with telegramsam17. The funny and interesting thing IMO about this song is the fact that an ugly situation is presented with so joyful music. Actually, it's a pretty optimistic song, as going "through the roof and underground" sounds like an escape and the fact that "between the borders the real countries hide" gives some hope...:) |

sleepingexplorer is right about the lyric correction. Blake referred to the multiple significances everything has, in contrast to the rationalistic explanations newtonian mindset would always give. The lyrics in general are very spiritual, but in fact I think they talk about how insignificant human life is.

Difficult, but one of them must have the strength to end a relationship that doesn't work and lovers don't match. I don't think it's about Marc realizing he's gay, cause he's planning to find a "nice little housewife". It's more about being attracted to a certain person, but that's all, there is no future for you two and, although you like them, you feel tired of them and you get them out of your life.
And me, I also don't like David Gray's cover (don't find it awful though), but Nouvelle Vague's one is pretty worth a listen:) No-one catches up Soft Cell's version, of course!!!<3 |

I often prefer songs with simple but true lyrics than others with more complicated ones with which just want to grab your attention... This song is one of them and I think it is one of the most beautiful and sweetest lovesongs ever written... Including one of the best lyric lines ever "And I don't believe in the existence of angels but looking at you I wonder if that's true"... Man, the woman for whom he wrote this pure masterpiece must be sooooo lucky.....:P :)

I also think it is about changing gender.. He enters and welcomes a new life, although there is guilt and shame all over him... He's asking for freedom to be different cause man is just the baby and now he's grown into a woman (overgrown weakness is probably a feminine characteristic)... I can understand the drug explanation, but I would not agree. I believe this song's about love and obviously gay, as Antony is gay and also Mr. Muscle is a Man (M capital!:P). Anyway, love is like a drug, isn't it?!
For me, it's mostly about the humiliation and the pain of love and the fact that the more hurtful it is the stronger it is and the more pleasure you get from it. Something like masochism, I'd say. But also it's about the human strength and the ability to recover from most things.
To cut a long story short, I agree with most of you, boys and girls:) |
