Perfume Genius – Dark Parts Lyrics

It's an "it should have been me" song--when you have a friend or loved one you care about so much that you want to take whatever sickness afflicts them, physical or other, and bottle it inside yourself and suffer for them.
It's a lovely song. |

Desaparecidos – Backsell Lyrics

I definitely agree with the Eliott Smith comment, and the "every channel sounded clear" is a pretty obvious Clear Channel reference.
The samples from music execs are great, too. It's just a 'fuck the music industry' song. |

Youth Lagoon – Posters Lyrics
|
I'd imagine he'd say posters symbolize your ambitions and your goals.
At nine his (1) poster represented what he wanted. Now, at 22, his life is full of posters--he's living his life, and he's evolved into what he wants to be; they're no longer just goals.
It's a song about finding out who you are as you grow up. |

Okkervil River – Mermaid Lyrics

This is great; I hadn't heard this version before, and it's cool to see the evolution of these lyrics into the version released earlier this year.
The released version is definitely more epic and, by the end, you're left standing, mouth open, like the narrator of the story, but I'd agree that the first version explains some of the things that you're left simply to assume in the released version. |

M83 – My Tears Are Becoming a Sea Lyrics

It's a song about dying.
What a masterpiece, though. This entire album is fantastic, but for some reason this is the song that really stood out to me. The crescendo at the end is incredible. |

Bon Iver – Holocene Lyrics
|
The Holocene is basically the last ~10,000 years that the Earth has existed; in other words, all of the world's written history and the entirety modern civilization--it's a song about points in time where you realize you're part of something much bigger. The specific times aren't really as important as the overall idea, which is why they appear in glimpses, yet the overall feeling, that "I could see for miles, miles, miles..." is recurring.
Beautiful song, beautiful images, and beautiful idea. The best song on the album. |
