Animal Collective – Also Frightened Lyrics 12 years ago
Okay, after many listenings I'm pretty sure that the 5th line is, 'the damp ground changed the hue of her hand (or maybe pants)'. that makes a whole lot more sense.

Animal Collective – Also Frightened Lyrics 13 years ago
it sounds to me like this is a song about the singer's two young children, who have a doctor's appointment or something. He's a young dad, and still in awe of and very protective of his children. In the beginning they're playing around in the woods (excited voices, mud, etc). He's asking the doctor, "will it be just like they're dreaming?" because he's afraid of his children haing discomfort. Then he's asking his wife if he should maybe let them go a little. I don't know, that's just what I think of. Especially since several of AC's other songs sound like they're about small children. I don't even know if whichever one of them wrote the song even has kids, but I always feel like with this band, it's less about the lyrics anyway... I love them because it completely takes me out of ordinary, constricting emotions and into a wild different place

Should it be LOAF in moss instead of LOATH? that would make a lot more sense

Animal Collective – Leaf House Lyrics 13 years ago
This song is amazing, I've been listening to it over and over for about 45 minutes now and i could do this all day! i feel like i'm in this weird dream world right now and I'm not even high... it's like, speaking to my soul right now. except it is so CREEPY at the end meow KITTIES meow oh my god

I get the sense that most Animal Collective songs are less about the lyrics than the overall feelings and images evoked by the music itself.

Talking Heads – Psycho Killer Lyrics 13 years ago
Yeah, they are the first band I've ever been completely obsessed with, even 20 years after they broke up. and no, they're new wave... not sure what that means, it must mean "awesome"

Talking Heads – Happy Day Lyrics 13 years ago
I think this may be one of David Byrne's few love songs that are actually about him falling in love, rather than him just pondering or criticizing love.

Bombay Bicycle Club – Always Like This Lyrics 13 years ago
I always thought it was like a personal meaning for the singer. He has a girlfriend who's pissed because he's in a really good band and he's always somewhere else, moving around all the time, and they're fighting about it. This has happened to him many times before, "always like this": girls think it's cool he's a musician but it never works out.

Bombay Bicycle Club – Morning After Lyrics 13 years ago
I think this song is called The Giantess. I thought it was Morning After for a long time but then I couldn't find it anywhere under that name. I loooove this song but I have no clue what the lyrics mean!

Bombay Bicycle Club – Many Ways Lyrics 13 years ago
I love this song... am I really the first to comment? I guess it's just about someone faced with a really big choice, like life ot death, and the thought of all the consequences that could occur are frightening him; the trembling hands. in the last lines, he doesn't feel wise yet and has some illusion that he can keep on doing what he's been doing: men saying there are many ways if he makes this choice seem like liars...

Red House Painters – Drop Lyrics 13 years ago
I'd been trying for a year and a half now to find words for that awful feeling of unbearable love for a person and hate for them for hurting me so much, and fear that theyll realize what i feel but also really wanting to tell them everything... this song is exactly that.

Talking Heads – This Must Be the Place (Naive Melody) Lyrics 13 years ago
Stop Making Sense is the best movie ever. I love the david byrne self interview, where he says, "i have written one love song... in this film i sing it to a lamp". he's my hero!!!!!! it seems like 90 percent of popular music is about love, but for some reason when david byrne sings a love song, it's extra special.

Iron & Wine – Belated Promise Ring Lyrics 13 years ago
i agree with you, she seems like a person with a lot of character. like about selling the promise ring, and losing a book she never read, those things are the kinds of little details that seem insignificant but tell you way more about a person than their age or job.

Radiohead – Faust Arp Lyrics 13 years ago
Thanks for the clarification of what the title is. This is my favorite song on the album and it's an amazing album. It's pretty different from most of RAdiohead's other stuff... it's really pensive and beautiful. Someone's comment that Arp comes form the last name of the founder of the Dadaist movement was interesting, because I just looked up the song I Zimbra by Talking Heads to find out what language it's in and turns out it's from a poem by Hugo Ball, who was part of the Dada movement (sorry but the word Dada sort of makes me laugh). it's just exploring various sounds and consciousnesses.

I don't think these lyrics are right, the ones already posted seem right

Fleet Foxes – He Doesn't Know Why Lyrics 13 years ago
I could be wrong but it sounds like they're saying "my brother you were gone" instead of "Born".
And also "20 dollars in your hand that you hold so tight" instead of "makes you hold". I like the first verse a lot, it's like the singer expects his brother to be wild and extravagant like he used to but instead he seems broken upon his return.

Fleet Foxes – Meadowlarks Lyrics 13 years ago
I like the interpretation of this song as sung from a flower's perspective. It's just beautiful. however that doesn;t really make sense with the lines about boys and girl, so I don't know... I don;t think it has to be over analyzed though. Just going purely off the actual sound of the song, it's like this tranquil but wistful summer day, like all sleepy and golden, but something perhaps is missing... either a lover or a bird/bee maybe. And I am pretty sure that it's "My meadowlark/ My hummingbird" rather than "A meadowlark/ a hummingbird", and "die" and not "dive".

The Beatles – Happiness Is a Warm Gun Lyrics 13 years ago
I love this song but now I'm extremely confused. Is it about heroin, nuns, or extremely graphic sex references? (Which makes me really not want to sing along whith it anymore). But i do think agree with MobiusDick in that the mpst valid meaning of a song's lyrics is the one that you think of personally.

Fleet Foxes – English House Lyrics 13 years ago
that is pretty twisted haha but I kind of agree with you. I mean maybe its more the actual sound of the song to me, since that has a great effect on the meaning of it for me, but I think it sounds too haunting and, I don't know, like when you're completely alone in a field or a lane and it's very grey and foggy and chilly and you feel this detached darkness. So i think there's a more complex meaning than just a cheating lover.

Oren Lavie – Trouble Don't Rhyme Lyrics 13 years ago
this song reminds me of a relationship that had promise at first but something wasnt right, she'd been hurt before or something and is now wary of opening up, so after confusion and regret... i dont know how it ends. this song reminds me of me.

Regina Spektor – Human of the Year Lyrics 13 years ago
The impression I get from this song is that it's sort of satirical; humans have a way of idolizing other people for really no apparent reason. It never gives an explanation to why Karl is human of the year, he doesn;t even seem to know. the cars beeping and the icons' gold bald spots make me thing of materialism too.

Imogen Heap – Little Bird Lyrics 13 years ago
I think that something else we can get from this song is to keep noticing little instances of beauty and goodness, too, though. Like, Imogen is suffering, but she sees this little bird (which may or may not be figurative, i don't know) and it strikes a chord of niceness inside her; something she can talk to.

Imogen Heap – Little Bird Lyrics 13 years ago
After I listened to this song a bunch of times in a row, because it's so beatiful, it started to remind me of this one time last year when my friend showed me this thing... it was a computer model of a musical instrument that was a combination of a bunch of different instruments and it played itself with little clockwork hands, with a little haunting melody. It was in a cluttered room and behind it there was a balcony that looked out onto a starry dark sky. We both agreed that it was really cool, but there was something inexplicably ominous about it too. I know this is strange, but that's the feeling this song gives me. It seems innocent at first listen, but then the intricate harmonies jump out at you with a strangely beautiful unsettlingness...
