Chris Garneau – Over and Over Lyrics 10 years ago
I view this song more like, a guy that got his heart broken, and his lover kept telling him that it wasn't his fault, thus the "It's not my fault, you said so", and Chris is just stuck in the endless cycle of sadness, and at the end, he sings about having to get back on his feet, and it's up to no other person but himself.

Said The Whale – Big Wave Goodbye Lyrics 10 years ago
Taken from an interview:

Worcester admits that other songs change their meaning, particularly ‘Big Wave Goodbye’. Initially inspired by the famed earthquake and flood that threatens to strike Vancouver in the as-yet undetermined future, it quickly took on a more metaphorical meaning “about the big wave propelling us along as radio acceptable music, because we’ve been told our kind of music isn’t radio kind of music because we don’t fit the musical standards people claim radio has.”

“Coming back, I can’t wait to come back and play that song, because it’s my city and when I sing I try to put myself in the same place when I wrote it. I’m different now, but it doesn’t lose meaning, it just transfers.”

Said The Whale – 2010 Lyrics 10 years ago
Taken from an interview:

When Said the Whale's Tyler Bancroft wrote the song, "2010," with its Vancouver Olympics undertones, his original feelings were that of pride and enthusiasm for his city.

Following the Stanley Cup riots last June, pride turned to shame.

"It's almost like an anti-Vancouver song," Bancroft said of the way "2010" has morphed, especially in its video treatment featuring footage from the riots, cars ablaze next to the downtown Bay store, with masked individuals roaming the streets. "But it's really not."

Duffy – I'm Scared Lyrics 10 years ago
I'm not ruling out that her lover could have died, but it could also be simply her fear of forgetting the past, or wanting just... the memory of him being there. Just wanting to leave these things the way they were before he left her.

Stars – Calendar Girl Lyrics 10 years ago
Someone posted this on YouTube and I had to share it. It's amazing.

"I think Calendar Girl is about a girl or person who's lost and just passes the day without purpose and significance. It's somebody who's trying so hard in their soul-searching but they're frustrated, and they're constantly battling between death or living on. It's about dealing with depression. It's like you hate being alive, but you're not ready to die yet. Whereas everything else in your life is so dark and uncertain, the only thing thats keeping you up is knowing that there's hope in living."

Cansei de Ser Sexy – Let's Make Love and Listen to Death From Above Lyrics 11 years ago
There's a "to" in the title, yes, but it does gets in the way of the flow in the lyrics, and isn't sung at all by Lovefoxxx.

Grimes – Devon Lyrics 11 years ago
Claire's ex-boyfriend is Devon Welsh (aka Majical Cloudz). The lyrics don't mention any names, but from the title "Devon", it's definitely about him. It's so romantic that she wrote something like this for her ex-boyfriend.

Sure, that makes sense.

Grimes – Oblivion Lyrics 11 years ago
Based on repeated listening to live versions, it's actually:

"And now the walk about after dark"
"And now it's good to be tough on me"

(or even bother looking at the way her mouth moves in the music video)

Too bad that's not right and you don't listen carefully enough to live versions.

Grimes – Oblivion Lyrics 11 years ago
Actually you're almost right, she actually sings "And now, it's good to be tough for/on me." :)

She actually very clearly sings "throw" in the live version.

Lily Allen – Who'd of Known Lyrics 11 years ago
I was very disappointed with the music video, this was a very beautiful love song and I thought Lily could've made something more of what the song was trying to portray. However, I believe she channeled the tensions she had with John Elton back then into the video.

I can't tell what she's singing very well, especially at the "Playing the vagabond" line. I don't see her mouth moving that way... I feel like she's singing "Playing the deck above."

Grimes – Vanessa Lyrics 11 years ago
Definitely "throw" after listening to the live version.
