I always took the song at face value, but I think you just nailed it. |

Lady GaGa – Bloody Mary Lyrics | 13 years ago |
I don't know what the overarching meaning of the song is, but just to point out the obvious, "Bloody Mary" seems to be an allusion to Mary Magdalene, a disciple of Jesus (though she didn't get credit as such from history because she was female). Mary is often (incorrectly) characterized as a former prostitute, which is possibly related to the stoning reference. That being said, this is Lady GaGa, so I doubt the song has any deep religious significance; she's probably just playing with the Christian symbolism for artistic/controversy value. I'm sure it has nothing to do with the song, but the real "Bloody Mary" was Mary Tudor, a 16th century Queen who was infamous for brutally restoring Catholicism to England (burning several hundred people at the stake in the process). I was quite surprised by the heavy use of Christian symbolism in GaGa's new album - I sort of like it, though. |
Garbage – April Tenth Lyrics | 13 years ago |
I'm pretty sure it's "junkies" not "good keys". And "thousand-yard stare" has nothing to do with cops. It's a term used to describe the blank look on someone's face who's really out of it or in shock - how they seem to be looking through everything rather than at something. Also, it's not "black pen" or "black penny", it's "bad penny", meaning a no-good person who can be counted on to turn up again and again, usually at inopportune times. I think KevinMO's interpretation is probably correct, or close to it. |
