Zac Brown Band – Colder Weather Lyrics 10 years ago
This song is one of those creations that express broad themes and can resonate within the hearts of many people.

If you look at the story told by the songwriter, Wyatt Durrette, it was based on his experience as a musician, and a particular woman who got fed up with never seeing him. He was always on the road, always leaving; an unchangeable "rambling man," "born for leaving" her behind. His music trumped even his love for this woman.

For me, it speaks to my relationship with a particular woman, whom I have loved very, very much. There was [is!] something about her that drew me back to her again and again and again. Unfortunately, we could never seem to make it work over the long term. Anger or dissatisfaction would creep in and the relationship would eventually crash; one or the other of us pulling the plug. It seemed we were both was "born for leavin" each other. But every time it ended, she would haunt me and I'd be with "[her] ghost again." ...and that's still the case to a degree even though it's been almost a year since I last saw her. I can still smell her perfume through these whispering pines.

I re-read the lyrics with what you said in mind. Have to admit it makes sense.

I remember in high school English Lit class hating poetry because if I didn't see what the teacher saw, I was essentially told I was wrong. That never sat well.

Art is (yes, in my opinion) as much about the inner reaction that arises in the witness as it is about either scholarly interpretation or the artist's.

Some art strikes to the heart of such universal theme(s) that the same piece can become a template that fits many life circumstances.

People see what they see. The artist's reality at the moment of creation is interesting and even important, but the life of a piece of art depends more on resonance within the audience.

And there, the meaning of the words may usefully part company, :-)

Thank you.

Your interpretation is as beautiful as the song itself. Best compliment I can think of.

Totally subjective I know, but I find Sully Erna's (Godsmack) performance more powerful than the original.

I listened carefully to the "Ten Summoner's Tales" version of this song and it sure sounds like the lyric is "And if I told _her_ that I loved you".

Outstanding song. Brilliant production of people at the peak of their art.

Chris LeDoux – Between the Rainbows and the Rain Lyrics 13 years ago
Though this song was written and performed by the legendary Chris LeDoux, I've supplied the lyrics as they appear in Trace Adkins' (a legend in the making IMO) performance on his album "Cowboy's Back In Town."

I find the lyrics haunting and all too pertinent to my life at the moment.

I'd love to read your feelings and interpretations.
