It's a love song. The singer is bored, and the only thing that interests him is his love interest, because she's "unpredictable like the sun and the rainfall". It's not clear to me what he's bored with; I think it's the current state of his relationship with his love interest, and/or life in general. |

I'm really connecting with this song right now. Night is the loners' time of day, which is why she's "of night". He calls her a sister because he "feels it too". That is, he's also lonely. He understands this woman because he feels exactly the same way himself; THAT's the real point of the song. That, and of course, that he thinks they should cure each other of their loneliness. The imagery of fire and whatnot is metaphorical - she is "burning in desire's name"; in other words, she yearns to not be lonely anymore. The loneliness is so powerful that it threatens to "kill" her (also only metaphorically). The stanzas about feeling insecure and the one after that are referring to her search for a man to end her loneliness. The "he" might refer to the singer himself (just as she's a hypothetical woman to him, he's a hypothetical man to her). So he's basically saying, "Hey, lonely girl who feels exactly like me, I know you're out there. Let's get together". |
