The Strokes – Under Cover of Darkness Lyrics 13 years ago
I actually can see a lot of what ochreleaves is saying. Also, 'Under Cover of Darkness' seems sorta like... These lyrics are underlying feelings. It's not as though The Strokes have been trying to hide what they're thinking, they've just... They haven't been around for 5 fucking years, so they've faded into the darkness? I mean, as true Strokes fans, we don't see it that way, but to the general public, that's the way it is (now that song's playing in my head...). Anyways yeah, just saying that I agree.

Also wanted to add, I think they cleverly chose this as their first single. Don't really think that needs much of an explanation. Kind of one of those things where once it's been thrown out there, it can't be unseen, right? I'm just sooo excited for this new album to come out. I almost feel bad for putting The Strokes under so much pressure, but it wasn't like I did it personally, & I'm still grateful for this new album & TOUR!!!!

Okay, I'm done.

The Strokes – On The Other Side Lyrics 13 years ago
Simple melody, simple lyrics, simply amazing.
If you know enough about Jules, you know the meaning of the song is pretty clear.

All right, he's tired of everyone. They bore him; he's just not satisfied with them.

At first, the other side isn't very clear, but we can infer that later.

Next verse is his little cycle/routine. He hates them all when he's sober. He loves them all in a drunk state. He then drinks himself into a depressed-drunk state & hates them more than he would when he's sober.

Now, the other side? It's like the recovery side. The side he knows he should be on, but doesn't bother to go. The reason why he doesn't isn't because he doesn't want to; recovering from alcoholism isn't easy, so why go through the efforts if there's nobody even waiting for him "on the other side"?

It's totally Juliet! She was their manager at the time. Maybe it's just more obvious now because it's 2011 & they've been married for 6 years, but y'know..

Now that Julian's introduced her to the song, his attitude takes a turn up. Now, Jules is actually wanting to change & be better for her.

That's why he says he knows she's waiting for him. She makes him want to get to the other side.

The Strokes – Meet Me In The Bathroom Lyrics 13 years ago
Am I the only one who thinks this has to do with Julian's father/parents? Promises; like wedding vows. They can celebrate the wedding, get drunk & whatnot. The uncle reference could be a personal thing & not a metaphor.

Then it sorta goes into how Julian treats girls, maybe. They're just fucks & nothing more. His father kind of skewed the whole idea of love for him. The last chorus changes from 'we' to 'they.' 'They' are his parents.

Just a thought. Room On Fire is the best Strokes album hands down.

Julian Casablancas – 4 Chords of the Apocalypse Lyrics 13 years ago
Okay, not saying it's the official meaning of the song because it doesn't apply to all of it, but parts of the song reminds me of The Strokes. Not musically, but the process of the 5 of them kind of drifting apart. Luckily, they're still together, but I think it's pretty obvious they've all grown a bit too far from each other.

Anyways, I'd go into a full-on explanation of this song, but I just don't feel like it right now, ha. Amazing song, though.

I found this on YouTube. it was a comment from 'ltvg4g';

Damon in a recent interview:

"I just wanted to make a pop song; I just wanted to get back on the radio. I was just fucked off no-one was playing me on the radio. When Melancholy Hill came out in England Radio One said ‘Oh no we are trying to keep our core audience under thirty’ and I was like well ‘fuck you then!,’ and radio two said ‘Oh no this is way to edgy for our over 30 audience’, so I found myself totally barred from radio and I was like, that’s not fair."

in essence, everyone who's said it's about the music industry is pretty spot on. it's a generic pop song, but I think it still stands out & is a lot better than the rest. funny thing is, people don't always pay attention to the lyrics, & I think Damon knows that so this song is pretty clever.
