Tool – Viginti Tres Lyrics 12 years ago
I don't know where the Latin lyrics came from... If anything is being said in this song, it's definitely only one or maybe two words, not all that Latin bullshit! I think they might have been spread by someone trying to fuck with us, you know, like Tool does with every album? Because you know the band name is ironic: it's not the band that is the "tool" but it is the fans who are the real "tools" and sometimes the band uses it's tools to play silly games. OR, and alternative theory, it might be Paul D'Amour back from the grave, fucking with his old band's fans while no one is looking ;)

Tool – Lipan Conjuring Lyrics 12 years ago
I think Maynard, Adam, Danny, and Justin have better things to do working on Tool and other groups and projects than to go around fucking with their fans on songmeanings. Don't get me wrong, they LOVE to fuck with their fans every chance they get, but I doubt they are egg or Trexor. However, while the "current" Tool has better things to do, Paul D'Amour might have time to fuck with people...
He might even be the one responsible for the mysterious Latin lyrics for "Viginti Tres". Who knows? ;)

Tool – Aenema Lyrics 12 years ago
I like the idea about mom being "Mother Nature" but I think it may just be Maynard's reflection on what society has become. It goes back to the whole "who would win in a fight: an astronaut or a caveman?" thing. Many Americans often become isolated from the real world by their riches and end up in a kind of bubble shielding them from the real world's problems. As a result, they start to care less about serious problems and care much more about insignificant, childish things, i.e. celebrities and fashion and what's cool. We begin to forget about the real problems ("Fuck your short memory"). By saying that "Mom's coming around to put it back the way it ought to be", he is calling us all children who can't deal with our own problems and who need a true adult to solve them for us.

Tool – Bottom (feat. Henry Rollins) Lyrics 13 years ago
It seems to me like this song is about an addiction. The speaker has had this addiction for a long time, and he feels his has hit rock "bottom" now. He understands that he has to face his addiction before it completely destroys him, but at the same time he feels utterly helpless and unable to do so. His guilt is the only thing that has kept his addiction from killing him already.

well, against what the Declaration stand for now, since originally Blacks were considered three-fifths of a person, but you get my point hopefully...

Metallica – Some Kind Of Monster Lyrics 13 years ago
I think that the monster is hateful people in society. The first two stanzas seem to show the monster as hating and hurting someone, "These are the boots that kick you around," "These are the ears that ring with hate," "This is the fist that grinds you down," etc, etc... Also, the "you" that is being hurt by the monster is probably an outcast (or an ethnic or religious minority) who society is constantly beating. He tries to run and hide from the hate, "These are the legs in circles run," but he feels trapped and fearful because of the constant torment, "These are the lips that taste no freedom," "This is the feel that's not so safe," "This is the pain that never leaves," etc... The persecuted person is trying to rebel against the hateful society around him, hence the "voice of silence no more". By saying that, "this monster lives," it is implied that this hate lives in modern day society. The question, "Are we the people?" has two meanings: First, it is meant to imply that our society is full of monsters as opposed to people; and Second, it is meant to reflect the Declaration of Independence's "We the People," and is therefore asking whether or not these hateful people in America are deserving of the rights they have that our forefathers fought for, and how this hate goes against everything the Declaration stands for. The ending part has a different tone, and it is lyrically much darker that the rest of the song. The, "black that uncolors us" is the darkness that lives inside every person ( "I'm in us") , and how we are all capable of hate and violence despite trying to hide it ( "This is the face that you hide from / This is the mask that comes undone"). Evil exists inside all of us, and this means that we cannot trust each other, ( "This is the cloud that swallows trust").

Linkin Park – When They Come For Me Lyrics 13 years ago
It's difficult to hear, but he might also be saying some stuff like "obedezcan" (Obey) and "Presta atencion" (Pay attention), which kind of implies a dictator trying to control his people, which also makes sense and implies more anarchy.

Linkin Park – When They Come For Me Lyrics 13 years ago
Great song. They seem to be saying that being unique and different is much better than being popular and famous, which is good advice whether or not it is referring to them. The spanish at the end is "Escuchame! Escuchame todo lo gente! Escuchame ahora!" which in English translates into "Listen to me! All you people listen to me! Listen to me now!". It almost implies anarchy or a revolution, which makes sense being that the song is about being unique and not being "a robot" or "a monkey". However, based on the video that is mentioned in 6midlan's reply to ItsOnlyWord's comment, they probably used it just because they were messing around and decided that they liked the way it sounded...

Metallica – Where The Wild Things Are Lyrics 13 years ago
I think that the title being the same as the kid's book is just to let the audience know that the song is about children, not necessarily about the book itself. It enhances the meaning of the song by making you remember that little kid's book and then you think, oh, maybe this song is also about a spoiled little kid...

Metallica – Wherever I May Roam Lyrics 13 years ago
The song seems to show a classic example of a Byronic Hero (whether thy meant for that is up for debate). The song seems to show several Byronic characteristics: Ability to adapt; Suffering from an unnamed crime; Intelligent and Perceptive ("Only knowledge will I save"); Being an exile, outcast, or outlaw (here it seems to be just an outcast); And a distaste for social institutions and norms ("To the game you stay a slave"). The end with "Carved upon my stone, My body lie, but still I roam yeah yeah!!" implies that he has died and come back as a ghost to wander the earth. But since this is Metallica we are talking about here, I think it could also mean that even after all the band members are dead, their music will live on and continue to be listened to across the world. I hope so, because this song kicks @$$ and Metallica kicks @$$. On an unrelated note, if Chuck Norris got in a fight with Metallica, no one would win because Metallica's awesomeness would cause Chuck to implode and create a black hole that would destroy everything.

He's a sick fuck because he doesn't agree with how you interpret the song? Jesus man, you need to calm down, people are allowed to have their own opinions about stuff... Unless you in China. Or North Korean. Or in one of the Middle-Eastern countries that has been fucked up by American and European armies. Or in, well, most of the planet I guess...

Linkin Park – The Catalyst Lyrics 13 years ago
Everyone is saying that it is about nuclear war, which is true, but I think it has other meaning as well. I'm not a Christian or even a believer, but I think the song could be talking about the second coming of Jesu Christi and hell. "We're a broken people" could refer to the fact that the bible says that the Anti-Christ will rule the world when Jesu returneth, and "living under loaded gun" and "To symphonies of blinding light" would been when Jesu/Superman (depending on your belief) comes back and does some major ass-whooping. Then the rest is about those who are in hell. "Like memories in cold decay/ Transmissions echoing away/ Far from the world of you and I/ Where oceans bleed into the sky" and "God save us everyone/ Will we burn inside the fires of a thousand suns/ For the sins of our hands/ The sins of our tongue/ The sins of our fathers/ The sins of our young" sounds". Sounds pretty hellish to me. Traditionally hell has fire, in Dante's Inferno it also has ice so the "cold decay" part makes sense, burning for different sins is obvious, and the rest about echoing transmissions and God save us is pleas of the damned. This all implies that humanity is essentially creating a "hell on earth" because of our nuclear weapons and environmental carelessness.

Metallica – St. Anger Lyrics 13 years ago
Is it just me, or is the lines "Fuck it all and fucking no regrets, I hit the lights on these dark sets" a reference to Damage Inc when they say "Fuck it all and fucking no regrets, Never happy ending on these dark sets"? Or is it just a coincidence? Or were they just running out of ideas? Anyway, for those of you who hate the album and/or the song, let me just say this... Metallica was going through some though shit when they made this album: James was in rehab most of the time; Newsted had just left; and their fucking producer, Bob Rock, was playing bass in the beginning so when Trujillo came in he had to play bass in a similar sounding way to him so its not his fault. I have nothing that can save Lars, but honestly, his fucked up drums kind of go with the subject matter of the album and song. I'm not saying it's the best song by Metallica, or that it is not the worst song either, but its a whole lot better than most other songs by most other bands. Be happy with what you have people. Besides, they are starting to make up for it with Death Magnetic, so its not the end of the world, yet...

When I first heard this song I was surprised. I honestly did not get that he had multiple personalities until the very end when he says "I'm YOU!". I've seen movies that have a surprise ending, and read books that have a surprise ending, but this is the first song with a surprise ending I have ever heard.

Lol one small typo changes one of the greatest songwriters of all time into one of the greatest communists of all time ("greatest" in the second case meaning least genocidal and causing the least amount of his own people's deaths through starvation or overwork).

Metallica – The Unforgiven III Lyrics 13 years ago
Back when I was stupid, and before I heard the song I assumed that any band with "Metal" in its name had to be a death metal band, where even if the singer is saying something noteworthy, you can't tell because it just sounds like grunting monkeys anyway... But when I heard this song I realized I was stupid and now I am a huge Metallica fan. Anyway, while the song is literally about a boat captain, it could easily apply to a person's life. The captain of the boat "set sail to sea" but got "pulled off course, by the light of golden treasure". This means that the man's life got off track when tried to reach some appealing goal (fame or wealth?). The captain is kind of brain dead, and is so oblivious that he doesn't realize that he is causing pain for the crew. He is so focused on the golden treasure that he sinks the ship and becomes a castaway that has to live with his mistake for the rest of his life. If a person focuses on the "intoxicating" dream without taking the real world into consideration, they can inadvertently hurt people and ending up brooding like this sad captain. He can't forgive himself because he knows it it his fault.
