Queensrÿche – Silent Lucidity Lyrics | 13 years ago |
Hi KLH, I hope you don't mind if I point out some other interpretations of the lyrics as it relates to lucid dreaming. Hush now, don't you cry Wipe away the teardrop from your eye You're lying safe in bed It was all a bad dream Spinning in your head Your mind tricked you to feel the pain Of someone close to you leaving the game of life So here it is, another chance Wide awake you face the day Your dream is over... or has it just begun? The whole first part of this song is about how lucid dreaming works. Usually when someone becomes lucid (or aware they are dreaming) in their dream, they wake up. Sometimes you do not wake up physically though and you attain dream control. When this happens, you must do reality checks. "Your mind tricked you to feel the pain" simply refers to thinking you've already awoke and you are experiencing real life. Believe me when I say it is extremely difficult to tell the difference. "Your dream is over... or has it just begun?" simply refers to the possibility that you may still in-fact be dreaming. There's a place I like to hide A doorway that I run through in the night Relax child, you were there But only didn't realize and you were scared It's a place where you will learn To face your fears, retrace the years And ride the whims of your mind Commanding in another world Suddenly you hear and see This magic new dimension This portion of the song lays out what lucid dreaming is "a doorway that I run through in the night". The child was there, just didn't realize it. Facing fears and retracing years refers to being able to re-experience things you experienced before, also being able to face your fears (flying, heights, etc) without putting yourself at risk. Commanding in another world is simply being able to control your dream. If you open your mind for me You won't rely on open eyes to see The walls you built within Come tumbling down, and a new world will begin Living twice at once you learn You're safe from pain in the dream domain A soul set free to fly A round trip journey in your head Master of illusion, can you realize Your dream's alive, you can be the guide but... This last part has some things in it only very experienced lucid dreamers will know about. Especially the "living twice at once" reference, as this pertains to being able to directly control your physical body and maintain your dream state by controlling the chemical your brain releases during REM to induce sleep paralysis. This is a highly complex task but one that some lucid dreamers have mastered. Most lucid dreamers will not even know how to do this, it took me 15 years of dreaming lucidly before I could do it, it just happened. The rest of this portion basically states that you can make your dream whatever you want, you just have to do reality checks often. It takes a lot of discipline to do it, but anyone can do it over time, and sometimes a person will do it on accident, freak out a bit, and that's why we have this song! It is interesting as this song basically throws out all this terminology and all these great lyrics for us to interpret. Since very few people (overall) actually pursue lucidity and encourage it, most people aren't aware of what it entails and the effects of it's experience... I encourage anyone who wants to learn more to research it. |

While every person will interpret this song in there own way, I can say it is absolutely 100% about the lucid dreaming experience. If you talk to someone who is capable and adept at dreaming lucidly, they will explain it the same way after hearing it just as I am saying. I can match up almost every lyric nearly identically to common phrases from discussions involving lucidity. If you are not familiar with lucid dreaming, you should definitely research it online and educate yourself. It is itself a very mysterious thing... It really actually is amazing that Queensryche performed this song, as only a lucid dreamer would know these things of which they speak, so I imagine it is because Geoff Tate or another band member is a lucid dreamer. |
