@[stixx_n_strings:16730] lol I know that was 11 years ago, but "fast and hard?" Anyways, yeah I agree, but it's so much deeper than that, and such an awesome song! In my top 5 fav collective soul songs. I believe it's referring to a pattern, more than just one case, and not necessarily losing it. More like a constant struggle with dealing with the things/ppl in his life, that cause him to backtrack. A spiritual battle of sorts, taking Ed's background, other song lyrics, and the last line of the song into account.

@[Goit:16405] and the guitar, especially around the "don't hold back now girl" part. That's one thing collective soul has always been good at, somehow having a song be soft yet still rock at the same time.

I think its of a breakup but i have a dif interpretation. Hit by the closing door-he was the blame of the breakup & later changed his mind. Bandoliers-she always fights him bout it. She found someone knew who has changed her & he thinks she knows deep inside she belongs to him. He thinks shes hardheaded & is lieing to herself. By the end of the song he has desided to hell w\ her & tells her goodbye. I completely relate. Homme is the best guitarist\drummer\producer\lyricist\singer\multi band dude of all time. Does he ever take a break?

Even tho its like 5 years since u posted. I love this song & love qotsa! J\k i think that homme is a big fan of white wedding (billy idol, hinse the cover he did on the 2 disk version of era vulgaris) i think homme was like,"he wants to marry his sister? Thats weird but i like it" then he made his on confusing ass song like that to make people wonder what he means. Homme always writes in code in a way anyways.

Uhh??? I was sure i had this song figured out the 1st few times i heard it years ago. Maybe im wrong, but im pretty sure all of u have it way way wrong. When i take this mark of shame should be a dead give away (mark of the beast) by father he means god, not his actual father. For the one person that was wondering what the thorn was a reference too, my opinion is from the crown of thorns. How could i be the only 1 on here that thinks this!? None the less, its my 2nd fav on the album after outlaw torn. They both r lyricaly emotional & both still give me goosebumps 2 this day. Any1 the least bit religious should listen to this song again w\ my interpretation & c if it doesnt give u goosebumps. I thought that the lyric was should i look down disgrased or straight ahead & know that u must be, not blame. Makes more since. Sayin he didnt believe till it was 2 late. @cliffburtonsux why would u waste ur time w\ that screen name & commenting here? Id be praying the christians have it wrong if i were u. Hell will suck
