The Cure – The 13th Lyrics

Not at all. He's professed his love of it and the album, which he's said is in his own top 5. He's just disappointed that so many narrow-minded fans didn't come along for the ride. After all, It feels GOOD!
Odd that people take umbrage with this. They've got an album called Kiss Me Kiss Me Kiss Me, but a line is drawn ...here? |

White hats and black hats are in reference to the good guys and bad guys in old cowboy films and serials.

I couldn't say what it means in the context of this song. Something about duality? Perspectives? He sings it beautifully, and that's enough for me. |

@[GwiberWyrdd:32220] I've heard him refer to himself as queer, which is generally used for when sexuality is too complicated to put into words or a neat grouping, as it can often be. Even bi sometimes gives the impression of a 50/50 attraction split, when that isn't necessarily the case. |

What happened to the lyrics? They look like they're from a completely different song. |

@[StudyinScarlet:25354] Yep. After listening to the song for years and not thinking much about the lyrics as a cohesive thing until recently, this is the interpretation I came to as well. Well put. |

R.E.M. – Hope Lyrics

It's quite a coincidence, but Stipe himself denied that it was in reference to Matthew Shepard. And like ebow says, they recorded the take of the song that ended up on the album before the incident happened. They didn't go back in the middle of October to change the lyrics on a song, rerecord the song, repress all the copies they had prepared, and then ship it out a week later. |

@[schlieffen:14232] That makes some sense. There's definitely a dark edge to the song's sound, and Stipe's apologies here come close to sounding mocking. |

Talking Heads – Creatures of Love Lyrics

"I'm a monkey and a flower"
Interesting to see that this line later showed up in visual form on the cover of Naked (well, okay, a chimp and a flower. A pansy, to be specific. Chimp. Pansy. Get it?) |

Modest Mouse – One Chance Lyrics

I'm wondering if the actual line isn't "I'm just a vox in a cage" vox being the Latin word for voice, and especially common in relation to music.
Listening to it both on the album and in live performances, I think its a possibility, and it makes more sense to me than the mysterious "box" or something like "fox"
A voice in a cage. |

Arcade Fire – Joan of Arc Lyrics

Anyone feel like this song may have been intended for use in The Hunger Games: Catching Fire? Similar to how Arcade Fire both recorded Abraham's Daughter and composed the Panem anthem for the first film.
I don't know-- it seems just a /little/ disconnected with the rest of the album's themes, but it fits the film surprisingly well. |

Love the way he sings the line
"Just last winter, down below the equator, they had a summer that would make you blister"
Man has a veritable motor-mouth. |

I'm still unsure if I'm hearing "And that's in New York, friends" or "And that's a New York phrase"
I feel like either could work. |

And besides, the whole album is partially Billy saying goodbye to his teenaged self. He's letting out all these things he felt as a youth and still felt to some extent during those years when they recorded Mellon Collie. |

Radiohead – Little by Little Lyrics

"Drug and kill you"
Tell me I'm not the only one who hears "and a job that will kill you" ?
I just checked a live version and that's definitely what he sings. (Look up little by little radiohead on youtube and it should be the second result, titled "Radiohead - Little By Little", uploaded by thaFozzMan)
It's a little callback to OK Computer and No Surprises :D
"A job that slowly kills you..." |

The Shins – Know Your Onion! Lyrics

An interesting note, when he sings this live, during the part that goes
"The songs that I heard
the occasional book
were the only fun I ever took"
He replaces the word "fun" with drugs. I always thought it was clever. The songs he heard and books he read were the only drugs he ever took...
Well, at the time. |

First Mimicking Birds song I ever heard (Thank you Isaac Brock house tour video :D), and used to be my favorite. But now I can't help noticing just how nonexistent his "H" pronunciation is.
That and I just recently broke in The Loop and New Doomsdays |

My favorite on their album just over "The Loop"
I love the repetitive melody with the tracks that are all about space, creation, and the cycle of existence. |

remember ringing the bell" |

Radiohead – Paranoid Android Lyrics

Yuck, that's a little bold. I think Paranoid Android is a good song, but way too insincere to be even in the top net of Radiohead songs. Musically fun and top-notch though. |

Arcade Fire – Windowsill Lyrics

I like the line, "I don't wanna see what happens next."
It reminds me of those old internet ads that'd show you a "shocking" video clip, then stop it and say "Click to see what happens next!"
But of course, not before they try to make you sign up for something. |

"Buried in the bottom of a brackish lake"
"in the bottom" is repeated actually, so the actual lyric is
"Buried in the bottom of the bottom of a brackish lake"
In other words, SUPER buried. |
