I always heard "Someday". Waiting for "someday" to land, end, drown. Stop circling in the clouds and land to begin.

Owl City – Umbrella Beach Lyrics 10 years ago
Boxcars are railroad train cars (in this case empty) that vagabonds would live in and consequently travel around in.
I think many people confuse the idea of a boxcar with the car the kid builds in the video for this song.

Owl City – Umbrella Beach Lyrics 10 years ago
I like what invisiboy42293 said about the lyrics being "meaningless innocent surrealism"... that is what I feel about most of Adams lyrics, though sometimes I indulge the idea that Adam is singing some kind of esoteric language.
"home is boxcar and it's so far out of reach" feels to me like the longing for freedom and aimlessness that one might reach for when stuck in the basement or back room of their parents home while also stuck at rudimentary job at a factory. Wanting to be careless and free, for good.

Prince – 4 The Tears In Your Eyes Lyrics 10 years ago
I remember thia as a boy with him in this video with all the other pop stars of the time singing, he seemed displeased. I remember hearing they forced him to participate and provide a song for the album the U.S.A was making for Africa. You could buy t-shirts and buttons and stickers and it would all make Africa happier. It's a good song though.

Sufjan Stevens – The Star Spangled Banner Lyrics 10 years ago
"and the man on the bus" "and the cause on our hearts" is what I hear before "Has it done nothing more than drive us apart.

Also, I hear "the blood of the lamb".

Natalie Merchant – Carnival Lyrics 11 years ago
I've always found this song rang true but today I heard it while I was pumping gas and for some reason it became a bit more true somehow. Is it all just a fake drama? Either individually or collectively? I love the comments here. Had to check this site. Also, the end of the song where it fades into muzak or a car radio playing the song in the distance or something is one of the coolest ending for a song I think.

Sufjan Stevens – The Avalanche Lyrics 12 years ago
He explained in length that he wrote this song about the Chevy Avalanche... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Wi07ZLxhYzA I'm sure it means more than just this one introduction but that is what he had said.

Tori Amos – Hey Jupiter Lyrics 12 years ago
After a break up a girl mourns the loss of someone who left an indelible impression in her heart. She wonders if he is gay… could she call him, maybe they are both hurt and need a friend to run to. Letting herself be true caused him to leave because he couldn't be himself as honestly with her. Thought she didn't have to be a magazine. She's wondering, was she just being masochistic knowing all along that he was gay? If she can't decide between a shower or a bath how could she decide what kind of person she should portray herself as… Leather or a dress? But now he's gone. She hopes he's safe.

Fiona Apple – Periphery Lyrics 12 years ago
I have very little idea what this song could mean but that's part of why its awesome.

Great lyrics so far... I am hearing "but not with me" instead of "go now, with me". And "Buy themselves their own plot of land". And even though "stay away" makes sense at the end I hear... "Oh, the periphery.. stole you away."

This albums raw.

Sufjan Stevens – Get Real Get Right Lyrics 12 years ago
That was funny novolover. :) oolooloo, I agree that he seems to be speaking for himself. TemproaryLife, I've also heard Sufjan say "this song is for Royal". I've also heard him say he started bringing dance into the tour more and more as he continued to wrestle with "what do all these songs mean". Well, at least we are here to entertain that idea! Personally, I like the visuals of the end times involving space craft landing in the back yard and locking yourself in the bathroom trying to stay focused on the lord.

Cecil Otter – Sufficiently Breathless Lyrics 12 years ago
"Because troubles got the ace of every suit in it's sleeve." That's a good line.
I see this song as sympathetic to the plight of the would be everyday man that just isn't allowed to be in the game for some reason.

Cecil Otter – 1999 (the curse of gab) Lyrics 12 years ago
I'm hearing...
"So cold eye's shiver"? "Attracted to god's or attracted to freedom"?
Either way this song sums up a whole lot with a casual ease.

Sufjan Stevens – The Man of Metropolis Steals Our Hearts Lyrics 12 years ago
To be a better man. With Christian allusions. But Sufjan isn't married and isn't a father. He also has never publicly dated a girl or anything. So I'm guessing "dreamt the lake, took my boy". Was a reference to a boyfriend.

Prince – I Would Die 4 U Lyrics 12 years ago
Yes, he is very spiritual and Christian and very authentically so. He always has been. Aside from his own life journey it was the song "still would stand all time" that connected with me on a very personal level and convinced me of his genuine pure spiritual nature. He's struggled with faith and written many songs/albums explicitly dealing with faith and humanity. "Love, Sexy" is the most telling. This song I never caught as anything more than a love song somehow all these years until I heard another artist cover it, Chris Koza, and I caught the words clearly for the first time. This is a Jesus song I would say. He's tapping into the source as artists do. And it sounds like Jesus. "I am a dove I am your conscience I am love".

Oasis – Cast No Shadow Lyrics 13 years ago
I see it as a man who, in need, gave his life to evangelicals or any such group that replaces individuals. They shot down any idea he thought god had given him, took his passion and soul for the things he held dear and in the process stole his pride. But bewildered after it all he remains blameless and doesn't block god's light when he turns to the sun/son. His identity was lost to thieves seeking safety in numbers. But he remains someone who doesn't cast shadows on others.
