Paramore – Brick by Boring Brick Lyrics 13 years ago
Paramore may have been referencing that conspiracy theory in their video, and that's the reason for the monarch wings. But you can't really prove or disprove a conspiracy theory lol. There will always be people who believe in them. I agree with choleiscliche that the song is about burying your innocence, not necessarily because of a traumatic experience but just because everyone has to eventually.

Lady GaGa – Vanity Lyrics 13 years ago
The title of this song is pretty self-explanatory. I think it's about how vanity can get in the way of relationships. The part where she's singing "Look at me/What ya looking at" Is contradictory because these people don't really want people to "see" them, they just want people to look at the image they project. Don't know if that makes sense. But yeah

Rihanna – Rude Boy Lyrics 13 years ago
Sexuality in the media doesn't cause teenage pregnancy. As you would probably agree, sexuality in the media has increased exponentially recently. Teenage pregnancy on the other hand has decreased by over 30% in the past 5 years so please don't blame artists and entertainers for what is actually a DECLINING PROBLEM in American society

Rihanna – Rude Boy Lyrics 13 years ago
Ewwww sex is nasty, we can't listen to music about that.
First, sex is no longer a taboo. This is the 21st century. Second, just because an artist makes a song about sex doesn't mean they're a slut or something. It's just a song, it's supposed to entertain. Lighten up.
Pop music is supposed to reflect social trends and changes, and whether you like it or not sexual liberalization (including women taking control) is a social trend. For those who don't think Rihanna is taking control of her sexuality in this song you should probably listen to it again or look at the lyrics again because the language in this song is very dominant.

Lady GaGa – Blueberry Kisses Lyrics 13 years ago
This song is about a girl who was with boyfriend just because he is good at oral sex. When she says "My lips they miss his" she's talking about the lips of her vagina. I guess he leaves her because he gets tired of their superficial relationship. That's why she says "I told you baby/I'd love you maybe" She was stringing him along saying that she would love him eventually. Or maybe she hoped she would eventually feel something. Either way it never happened. I think the line "I know you're crazy" is another reference to how he wants her to love him and she thinks that's stupid.

Lady GaGa – Monster Lyrics 13 years ago
I think this song is about rape. I know most people say it's about hooking up with someone in a club but the bridge doesn't seem consensual (I wanna just dance but he took me home instead/Uh-oh there was a monster in my bed). She also says he is "the monster in my bed" meaning that he's the thing that makes her afraid of having relationships in the future. When she says "He ate my heart" I think she's referring to the way that he has stolen something from her (by raping her) and she is now afraid of sexual relationships.
When she says "We might've fucked not really sure don't quite recall" I don't think it's because she's such a slut that she doesn't remember all the men she's slept with. I think it's because she was drugged and doesn't quite remember what happened but knows that he is the object of her fear.

Lady GaGa – Fancy Pants Lyrics 13 years ago
This is a really fun song. I think it's about letting go of yourself, dropping your inhibitions, and not really caring what other people think about your good time. The song was written around the time Lady Gaga was signed and dropped from Def Jam, and I think the "This beat is so funny we made it with their money" line is a reference to that, but I don't know.

Lady GaGa – Paper Gangsta Lyrics 13 years ago
First of all, this is such an underrated song.
I agree that the song can have two meanings but I think it's more about Def Jam records. The imagery in the song is mostly related to writing, recording, and performing music and being "courted" by a record label (although I can see how "monkey papers" could be a prenup). Also, the line "You pimp LA" is, I think, a reference to how Def Jam screws over lots of Hollywood acts. She's basically saying even though you didn't believe in me I'm famous and you could have been a lot better off had you stuck with me (You shoulda been rappin to the beat of my song) but that's OK cause I'm a lot better off cause I didn't stick with you (A superwoman chick you know that I am).
Throughout The Fame Gaga uses love and relationships as metaphors for fame and most of the songs can be interpreted both ways, but conceptually the album is still about fame.

M.I.A. – Paper Planes Lyrics 13 years ago
The song's about America's fear of immigrants. The song lyrics describe illegal ways of making money, but the video shows M.I.A. as a cashier selling sandwiches, a delivery girl, and worker in a shop. All legit jobs. So even though many Americans associate immigrants with the baddest things in society (lethal poison for the system), the reality is that most legitimately work to make a living, and some even say the economy couldn't run without them (I agree). Her outfits are awesome too.

Lady GaGa – Fashion! Lyrics 13 years ago
Yeah, Gaga also loves fame but admits that it can be destructive. Nothing is black and white, especially with her. She loves fashion but I think she knows that "living to be model thin" is ridiculous. Especially since she uses the phrase skinny bitches quite often at concerts.

Lady GaGa – So Happy I Could Die Lyrics 13 years ago
As a few people have said, the song is about bisexuality. It's about being in love with someone who cannot love you back. The closest you can be to them is a friend relationship and lusting after them when you're alone. In the first verse Gaga describes the woman she is in love with, and the lonely feeling at night (all the tears and all the lies) because she cannot be with that woman except in her fantasies and feels that their relationship is a lie.

I think the pre-chorus is Gaga's wish that she can have a real, intimate relationship with this woman rather than just being friends. She wants her to "open up her heart and mind". Also, she expresses that she knows that when "the glass is empty" or their time together is over, "the world is gonna bend" and she will feel sad and lonely again. The chorus describes how happy Gaga feels when she is with this woman (notice that she says "stars in our eyes" not stars in my eyes and "we're higher than ever" not "I'm higher than ever"). The eh-eh, ye-ha, aha-aha part is kinda apathetic, like she doesn't care about anything else when she's with this woman.

I think all the drug and alcohol references in the song drive home the point that this relationship isn't real and it's only temporary. This woman gives Gaga a temporary high just like drugs and alcohol, but at night she crashes.

I think that the whole self-love thing is another interpretation of the song too. Gaga has stated both as meanings so both work depending on which you choose to stick with.

Lady GaGa – Alejandro Lyrics 13 years ago
I think a lot of people misinterpret the religious message of this song. I think one of the meanings of the song is a commentary about how homosexual/bisexual people are often turned off by the doctrine of the church and turn away from God altogether.

The name Alejandro means protector/defender. In the holy trinity this is supposed to represent God. The name Fernando means peace/love. That represents Jesus. The name Roberto means shining joy. That represents the Holy Spirit.

At the beginning she says "I know that we are young/And I know that you may love me/But I just can't be with you like this anymore/Alejandro" I think she's saying I know God loves me but I can't pretend anymore.

1st verse: She sings "She's got both hands/In her pockets/And she won't look at you won't look at you" So this woman's not being honest about something. Then she says "She hides true love in su busillo" she covers up her true love (a woman) by being with a man, as others have pointed out su busillo is Spanish for his pocket. Then "she's got a halo round her finger around you" I think that means she appears innocent because she's not open about her sexuality. The halo referred to may be a chastity ring or something like that.

In the pre-chorus she sings "You know that I love you boy" the boy she's talking to is Alejandro (God) so she loves God. But then she says "Hot like Mexico, rejoice" i think that's a reference to Hell and she believes she's going to hell because she's a lesbian or bisexual. Then "At this point I've gotta choose/Nothin to lose" She's deciding whether or not to be openly gay and she decides yes cause she thinks she's going to hell anyways, that's why she says she has nothing to lose.

The chorus is her rejecting the trinity. She tells God not to call her name, or try and change her. She tells Jesus she doesn't belong to him (I'm not your babe). And she tells the Holy Spirit she doesn't want to be involved with him she just wants to smoke her cigarette, which i think represents vices, as the Holy Spirit is supposed to inspire people to live "the right way". I think the reason she repeats Alejandro over and over after the chorus is because she really does want to be with God but feels like she can't because of her sexuality.

Then "Stop please/Just let me go/Alejandro/Just let me go" I think this time she's talking to the church not necessarily God himself but yeah I don't know I guess either works.

2nd verse: "She's not broken/She's just a baby/But her boyfriend's like her dad/Just like a dad" I think it means there is nothing wrong with her but her boyfriend (Alejandro/God/the church) wants to change her or fix her. Then "And all those flames that/Burned before him/Now he's gotta firefight/Gotta cool the bad" In other words the church and God try to change her even though she doesn't want to be changed. The flames might refer to past lesbian relationships and/or Hell.

Then the chorus again

But in the bridge she changes the chorus. She tells Alejandro not to bother her, cause she just wants to live her life the way she feels she should. She tells Fernando not to call her name and says "Bye Fernando" I think it's cause Jesus is a symbol of forgiveness and there are those in the church saying she can repent, but she doesn't want to because she doesn't feel she's sinned. She tells Alejandro "I'm notcha babe/I'm not ya babe" I think that means babe like child. She's saying she no longer feels like a child of God. Then she tells Fernando she doesn't want to kiss or touch. I think that's cause, once again, the Holy Spirit is supposed to inspire people and she no longer wants to be inspired.

In the video she uses a lot of religious imagery and I think it's because people thought this song was just about a relationship gone bad or a woman not wanting to be controlled. The video doesn't really reference either of those things but it does reference religion and homosexuality a lot so it only made sense to me that that's what the song was about. However, there are lots of interpretations of this song, that's why it's such a good song. Just giving an opinion that I don't think has been explored yet.

Also, as a note, I don't believe that the images of crosses and rosary beads being swallowed in the music video are blasphemy. Crosses are not sacred, and rosary beads sure aren't. They are simply objects that PEOPLE have decided are sacred. Nowhere in the Bible are any of these objects sanctified, and for us to hold them as sacred to the point where we cry blasphemy if they are "violated" is (in my opinion) idol worship. I don't mean to offend anyone, just saying.
